How do you format a 4GB SD card using Windows XP so I can use it for the Supercard? I always thought it could only use 2GB cards... but have heard 4GB is doable.

i think you have to set the sector size to 64k.  i'm not sure.  let me check on it..

Quote from: "egg"I have a 4gb CF which works at full capacity. You have to format it at command prompt (XP)

format H: /FS:FAT /V:GBA /Q

Where H: is whatever your drive letter is and GBA can be named to whatever you want to appear.

It will say you must accept 64kb block size (as per previous post) so just reply "y".

Only issue I've found is that upgrade.scu doesn't work from the root, but I just used a spare CF for that.

Just a shame I don't have 4gigs of bought games to make back ups of...

hope this works/helps.  in theory, it should work, but someone said they couldn't do it on their SD card.  this method has been confirmed to work on EGG's CF card.

format e: /fs:fat
worked for me!

edit: did have the same problem as above with firmware upgrade, but just used a smaller card.

hey 4gb SD cards at last, wonder when they will reach the stores here in australia..

just incase anyone is still having trouble formatting in XP, u can try loading a live linux CD like Ubuntu or Knoppix and running these commands to format your sd card;

0. insert SD card + reader into USB slot. boot PC from live linux cd.
1. find out about your SD card ' dmesg |grep sd '. this will tell you your device location. (/dev/sda in my case)
2. ' cfdisk /dev/sda ' to partition it. create a new primary partition, change type to ' 0C '.
3. ' mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/sda1 '

4. Done.

also if you use debian already and dont have mkfs.vfat, perhaps you need to apt-get the dosfstools package.

I've got myself the 4GB 150x A-data SD card, but when i formatted it to FAT, the capacity went down to 1GB!!

Now when i format it, the maximum capacity is only 955mb.... could it be because my current card reader will only support up to 1GB?

Anyone have any ideas or know any capacity fixers i can use to format it back up to 4GB please?!!?

[Edit]

Problem was my card reader.... thanks anyway guys.

Just used SD capacity fixer from transcends website on my 4gb atada SD and had to get a card reader that supports 4gb SD cards.
