Dont no if this post or something similar has come up befor but, is it possible for someone to have a wired network, with a wireless PCMCIA card, and then bridge that connectiong through the laptop to enable wifi on DS?

If SoftAP drivers can be found for your PCMCIA wireless card, yes.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

Yes, if the wired laptop has a wireless card with the RT2500 or RT2560 chipset you can use a program called SoftAP.  Otherwise pick up a wireless router for ~$25 and both your laptop and DS can utilize it.

(oops, m2pt5 posted before me)

SoftAP must not work with your laptop.  Buy a wireless router, or buy a USB or PCMCIA adapter with the RT2500 or RT2560 chipset.
