Ok, so after some research about the topic of loading roms onto my ds lite, I think that I have come up with a basic understanding of how this is all accomplished.

I was referring to the review/ guide at http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=30243
For a lot of my information.  In that review, the passkey and m3 were used to load external roms onto the ds.

Is the m3/passkey the best/most reliable combo out there for loading roms on to the ds?  I was surfing the forums for info and found that a lot of people used the supercard instead of the m3 for the storage purposes, which one is better suited for normal use such as saving games.  I know that the m3 cars plays off of the sdram and then saves to the disk later (after the reboot) but does the super card have the same functionally?

What is the best pass through device to use?  I like the form factor of the passme 2 z, but is the passkey 2 a better device for the task?

What size card should I get if I want to load a decent amount of roms onto the flashcart?  Can I get away with a 512mb or is the 1 GB better?

OMG, and there is also the other route of flashing my ds lite with a flashme device, since the new firmware has almost been worked out.

Can someone please make sense of all of the chaos that I have written?  Sorry for such a long post, but I hope that someone will, out of the bottom of there hearts, read this and give me some feedback.  Thank you in advance.

I think for DS roms, SC is a little more better than M3 since it's more compatible with games, on the other hand, with M3, they release updates more often to keep it up to date because it's having more problems. I'm not sure how the save function works with DS games but I just play the games and they save automaticly, I don't have to do anything particular..

It really doesn't matter which Pass device you buy. But I would say, just don't buy that passcard thing since it's too expensive and you won't even use it again after you flash your DS.. I used a Passkey2 with Supercard and I had no problems..

I'm using a 256 MB and it's enough for me. I'm just playing DS and GBA games and since the biggest DS game is about 130 mb, its more than enough.. But of couse, the bigger it is , the more games you can put but I don't have a problem. If you have enough money to buy 1gb, buy it.

M3 has a more complicated save system for DS ROMs than SuperCard (SC saves just like a normal DS cart on most titles), but otherwise is the same or slightly better for DS uses. SuperCard eats battery life away in around four hours on the old DS... six on GBA (maybe 6/8 in a DSLite?). M3 uses about the same energy as a real DS/GBA game.

M3 beats SC hands down for GBA. No contest. Not "perfect" as they claim, but damn near as good as any GBA flashcart (about 97% compatibility). SuperCard has many issues with very many GBA titles. I can play almost every game I like, but many others have massive problems. This is due to SC's slow RAM - it's not a firmware or software fix/patch issue.

Any version 2 PassMe type device is fine. They're all pretty much the same except for looks and price. The cheapest one will let you load ROMs or flash your firmware just as well as the super spendy one.

I would suggest using FlashMe 7.0 - having safe firmware is worth the slight scariness of flashing your device. It supports DSLite very well now.

Good luck and have fun.

edit:

for flashcards... 512MB is cool, but 1GB is great - enough room for games & movies (yet still pretty cheap). I use two 1GBs and a 512MB (just for movies), and I never run out of space.

I don't get folks who needs several 4GB cards. What are you carrying with you, half your DS ROM collection? 8)

If I were buying a DSLite flash device and passme right now... I'd go for M3 SD Slim (not M3 miniSD) and a PassKey 2. Reasonably priced and proven design.

If you wanna wait a bit... EZFlash is coming out with the half-height EZFlash IV Lite that uses microSD, and NeoFlash is gonna have a half-height (DSLite only) cart too. They may suck tho. Only time will tell.

ooh gahddammit, things is changes so quick is making Iqbal crazy. Uh, moving on in that UK inspired spirit... Datel's new Max Media Launcher looks killer. Their US branch CodeJunkies sells it for $19.99 Works in any DS/DSLite... same size as a DS cart... designed to be used as a PassMe device.
