apparently the firmware upgrade has goomba alpha, which plays gbc games,
but it does not have saves states

for pogoshell i would have had two plugins:
goomba.mbz
goomba-alpha.bin

and had the config file:
gb 12 goomba.mbz 1
gbc 12 goomba-alpha.bin 1

is there a way I could add the old emulator for gb games on the SC?

Not directly to the firmware, unless you can extract it and hack it.
Remember you can always compile your own emulator ROMs and add them as standart gba roms.
