QuoteDifferent firmware versions have different behaviors if a DS Game Card is ejected during Pictochat [1]. To determine your DS firmware version, follow these steps:

  1. Insert an authentic Nintendo DS Game Card into SLOT-1 of your Nintendo DS.
  2. Turn on DS (hold Select+Start if you have autostart enabled in the settings).
  3. Enter Pictochat.
  4. Enter any chat room.
  5. Eject the Game Card from the DS.

Result:

   * v1: Pictochat hangs
   * v2: two grayish blue screens
   * v3: two dark green screens
   * v4: two golden yellow screens
   * v5: two magenta screens (DS lite units have this)
   * v6: two dark blue screens (un-confirmed new DSes have this)
   * iQue: two dark green screens

As FlashMe is based on the v3 firmware, FlashMe will behave like v3 (two dark green screens).

If it's a new firmware you'll need a PassMe2 regardless of what you do.

Flashing isn't possible without a functional PassMe device, so if a PassMe doesn't work you can't get FlashMe on.

So about the results, v1, v2, v3, (...) what of them works with superpass1?

"If you have FW1,2, or 3, you can use PassMe1. If you have FW4 or 5, you need PassMe2."

passme1 = superpass1 and passme2 = superpass2, for the most part.

Any version DS that is not DSlite is legacy(old).  The majority of old style DS's offered by Nintendo will work with "passme".

Superpass2 will work with all version DS's, and comes pre configured as "passme" by default.

The pictochat check is invalid after you have installed FlashMe.

Don't confuse DS firmware versions with FlashMe versions, they are not related.  The DSlite firmware can be considered FW6, and requires a "passme2" device.  DSlite requires FlashMe v7 to work without a pass-through device.

Installing FlashMe is completely optional but recommended.  Any DS should be able to play games without FlashMe, using the correct pass-through device.

The blue DS will probably work with "passme1", mine does.
