Ok i've read up on a lot of the threads here but still want some clarification that hopefully won't sound too no0bish....

SD vs. CF: I've heard that even with the newest updates there are still some problems with slowdowns in SD for various games, even when you patch them. Is this just for certain SD cards or overall? Is it because of the single-bit transfer rate SD might be getting? (The only game i haven't seen any reports on at all i might want to play on it is a gba title: Love Hina Advance), but there are some DS ones and they've had mixed results i've seen...
Since right now i don't have a digitial camera or anything i'd like to know.

I'm getting an DS from a friend who doesn't know if its the older model or not. He bought it around the time they were swapping out the older ones that could use PassMe. So can i just buy Superpass 2 and just downgrade it to ver 1 if need be?

Also if i'm playing a DS game do i still need a DS cart or is the supercard enough?

I'm not sure about GBA games but for playing DS games on a supercard SD, a faster SD card is likely to play just as fast as the CF version with the odd one or two games.

A passme 2 will work in any DS so you may as well get it rather than a passme1.

You will need a retail game to flash your DS but wont need one in your DS to play games from the supercard once flashed (to one of the later versions of flashme v5+?).

The supercards GBA capability is crap.
You can expect problems on about 50% of the games.
either they don't run, run slow, have graphical issues or your supercard explodes :P
ok you're supercard won't explode but you won't be able to run a lot of GBA games without problems.

There are not a lot of differences between the sd and cf versions of the supercard.
The cf version is built using crappy materials, but if you don't force the cf card in the wrong way, drop it or anything like that it's no big deal.
BUT the cf version can use crism's cf driver so a lot of homebrew applications can write to the cf card but not to the sd card.

A supercard2 functions just like a supercard1 when you buy it.
So no need to downgrade it to vesion 1

And about the retail ds card.
You don't need a retail game to play ds games on the supercard, but you need a retail game to use the superpass.
So if you flash your ds you won't need the retail game anymore.
And in case this wasn't your point(I didn't quite understand the "playing" bit in your question) you can remove the retail game in the supercard and hombrew but if you remove the game while you are running a game the console freezes.
You can insert a game cart while playing a ds game trough the supercard.
Sleep mode will work if you do this.

hope this helps
