What is the root file of the SD card?

When, someone says that I need to DL my supercard updates to the root of my SD card, what exactly are they refering to when they say root?

Im clueless

Another question, where can I get an Nintendo DS game patch and how do I work it?
I found the Game Boy Advanced game patch but cant find one for the Nintendo DS!

Root means that you put it directly onto the card.  So, if you have folders in your flash media... you would'nt put it in the folders.
