Just flashed my DS Lite and WiFi settings transfer question.

Hey all, I just got a brand new U.S. DS Lite from Wal-Mart and successfully flashed it using the FlashMe file from here. Seems to be working well, but I definitely can't change the brightness on my DS Lite anymore -- I know I've read something about this before, but all the searches I could think to run didn't turn up any helpful results.

Is there something I need to do to bring back the ability to change the DS Lite's brightness settings? I liked having the four different adjustable levels.

Additionally, I was wondering if it's possible to copy over the data necessary to retain all my Nintendo WFC settings for games loaded on the flashcart. I've got a bunch of wins in Tetris DS that I'd kinda like to hang onto, if at all possible.  Thanks a lot guys, you're the best!

EDIT: Some further research seems to have shown that I need to flash using a "Lite" version of FlashMe v7. Any idea where I'm supposed to find that?

The rabbit hole just goes deeper!

EDIT2: Looks like the culprit is the fucking mirror file, that's just great. So apparently I need the 526KB version of FlashMe, and FlashMe's site is not only down, but the file doesn't exist on the official mirror that mods are closing threads here and linking people to. Any reliable recommendations about where to get the file?

V7 is the lite version AFAIK, but the mirror file doesn't match the checksum of the V7 file on my harddrive nor the last beta I had mirrored (?) as far as I know the 526k version contains older firmwares so that it can be installed on regular DS's also and that is the only difference...

anyway try your luck with...

Thanks for the link, I think. I heard that they didn't change much from the beta to the final version of V7, but all the same I like having my final versions.

As per the recommendation of a couple folks at the GBAdev forums, I ended up grabbing the file from this link:

http://mobiles.gx-mod.com/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=1700

...and successfully re-flashed my DS Lite with it and flashed the girlfriend's DS Lite with it as well. Both are working just jim-dandy now. So in conclusion, if you're looking to flash a DS Lite make sure you're not pulling the FlashMe file from that mirror. Kind of alarming, seeing as that mirror website's the one that shows up in the PocketHeaven Wiki. This stuff's confusing enough without shitty information being spread on top of everything else.

I realize it's poor form to complain about a free service, but the FlashMe website being down right when the DS Lite drops in North America is extra-fuckin'-ordinarily inconvenient.

EDIT: Back to my other question, is there any possible way to copy all the WiFi settings over from one DS to another? I don't want to lose all my saved stuff on WFC.

Ah right cool, well thanks for confirming that version works correctly, I've added that version to my mirror under "knowngood". I think the site being down is sort of out of anyones control... gcdev.com itself is actually back up but the flashme site is still missing ( even if you frig your hosts file to point to the new IP :P )

Also just as a disclaimer the only reason I locked a couple of threads re alternative locations is because they were duplicate threads, its not some conspiracy ;) That mirror link I think was originally posted on gbadev.org iirc.

Anyway to answer your question no sorry there is no way to save your existing wifi data.

darkuni

Not completely true.  Use the TRANSFER WIFI DATA from your old DS to your DS Lite.  All your WFC games will think you're using your old DS.  I've done this SEVERAL times successfully - real carts as well as supercard saved.

I did exactly the same thing as kbizzle flashing with the beta version.

I want to get the new version, but do I need to reflash or can it just upgrade by itself?

darkuni

As I UNDERSTAND it, there is no difference between the BETA and the FINAL flashmelite code.  Just the word BETA removed. :)

I see.

How do I check what firmware I have again?  =X

this is weird.....i got two green screens.  they dont seem like "dark green,"  just green.  according to your page dark green would be flashme v3.  i dont remember downloading version 3.

i have the ds lite.  do you know what's going on?  when i click the sun icon, both screens just shut off completely, not just simply take off the backlight.

if i need to reflash to the new version and say i mess up and it turns off, do i still have the recovery or it would be a brick?

If you already flashed it you might not have to bridge the connection again like it did on the old DS but im not sure but its worth a try just run flashme 7

The colors on those pages represent what original firmware you have.  As I understand it all FlashMe's were based on Nintendo's own v3 firmware, so all versions of FlashMe have the green screens.  So if you've already flashed your DS and you're getting green screens, you're pretty much just confirming that you have flashed your DS before :)
