hey guys I just bought a supercard sd and a sandisk 512mb sd card.  hasn't come in the mail yet.

reading some of the posts in this forum I see a lot of complaints, and a lot of people saying they are false complaints.  some people say MOST of the games have slow down, and some people say very few games have slowdown.

so what's the real truth?

stupid2ass

You'll find out when you get yours if you can get it to work ;)
Other than the filmplay and the slightly slower loading times, I'm fairly happy with mine.  There are still slowdowns but nowhere near as bad as the CF version.

I guess I can't expect it to be perfect.  I just want it to play some games and basically just want it to work.  loading time, not a big deal.

if anything, I'll use the supercard sd till the movie player M3 comes out, which I hear is much more stable and compatible.

when i get my sc, im gonna try the "fix for slowdown" I read in the other post and see how it works out.

Yeah some games have slow down and are not very playable but most games play fine.  I'm happy with my CF SC.  There's lots of games that don't have problems for every one that does.

would everyone please stop referring to movies as films?  please :-x

hectic, nobody is referring to movies as "films"

Filmplay is the name of the supercard media player software.

Besides, even if they were calling movies "films", what's wrong with that?  In many of the countries I've lived in, movies were referred to as films.  movies is short-form for "moving pictures"... that's pretty weird too. heh

Hectic

oh, well, that pedophile romman should stop referring to video as film as well. especially digital video.  and moving pictures is a lot better of a term to use for digital video.  i know films is a word used to describe motion pictures, but for christ's sake, it's annoying;)  my sister would understand what i mean.  it's like calling pop tarts pastries.

dowkeruk

Personally I find calling films, 'movies' more than annoying. I read
'Film Fun' years ago, and watched Film Stars perform in Films.

Ramin

Maybe someone should clue-in George Lucas about the wrong-being of the term "film" (i.e. "LucasFilms") The last few Star Wars were filmed entirely on digital media.

joshob2004

hmmm... a post about the truth about the SD Supercard turned in to a debate about the words "movie" and "film"...LOL    somebody has WAY to much free time on his or her hands

I came to the conclusion that Supercard is a piece of garbage.  too many bugs and never should of been released till it was actually fully functional.

I'm moving on to an x-rom 512

stupid2ass

For the slowdown games (and the CF version), I agree.  It is a piece of garbage.  but the SD version has been pretty good to me so far.  I'd say about 8 games I've tried suffer from noticeable slowdown.  The rest work ok and you can store so much more than that xrom 512.  The M3 from the one Chinese review says there is no slodown.

Trenton_net

Its because of the Hynix memory chips they use. Its cheap, but not fast enough compared to real GBA cards. Thats why even with all interrupt patches not appied, some games still slow down. But considering slowdown is only in a small fraction of games, I still find the Supercard a good value. But I paid Chinese prices, not north american import store prices so your value per dollar may vary. :-)

I guess if you can get it to work then it's not that bad.  slowdown in some games doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is that I recieved a supercard and it doesn't even work.  Reading these forums, I see I'm not the only one that got a defective supercard.  now I'm sending it back, and waiting for a new one.
