The DS headphone output isn't loud enough?  I played in a metal band for years and I have no trouble hearing it at less than half volume.  Are you using your DS next to a jet engine or something?

is yours a DS Lite?  because my DS Lite output (both headphone and speaker, but especially speaker) is very soft compared to the old DS.  
And I have had 2 DS Lites, both were quiet

The DS Lite speakers themselves are not so loud but the headphone output is very nice I believe, I play Ouendan! all the time and I sometimes find myself toning the volume down cause it's too loud (Restaurant Chef song, anyone?)

The speakers are a little quieter on the DS lite but head phones are the exact same but on the ds lite they got rid of the static noise

ill get the 1 i posted link to 20 bucks more then the boostaroo but my  friend has the 1 i linked and ive never heard a boostroo  and i tried it on my zen xtra 40 gig mp3 player and it made my headphones for that MUCH better/clearer
