Were these made by the creator of gp32 and gp2x?  what one would be the best? I was going to get the gp2x but if these run the same games and programs I think I will get one of these.

According to the wiki its the same people who did GP32 but they split and made a new company.  I saw these a  few months ago (talked about in the chat room, good reason to visit the chat, lol) and they look sweet. They havent been released yet and no word on when they will be. I checked like a month ago and it seemed that development for the new gp2x emus were going very slowly. Not even a full speed SNES emu had been released I dont think.

The XGP is one of two successors to the GP32 handheld console. Since early 2005, Game Park has been divided into two different companies. One is Game Park, developing the new XGP, and the other, formed by some employees of GamePark, is GamePark Holdings, developing a multimedia system called the GP2X. (copyright issues with the name made it change from GPX2 to GP2X).  While the GP32 was only available in select markets (Korea and parts of Europe and Asia), or had to be imported, it is thought that the XGP will be marketed worldwide.

I'm not sure about backward compatibility.  I don't think they will run commercial GP32 games.  I did find this quote: "The Planning Team Manager, Woo-Seok Lee, tells me there is no reason why these should not play the old GP32 homebrew . . ."

I didn't buy one after reading in the forums about them. Aparently the whole first batch of them had hardware defects and the emus are just plain horrible. I mean it's running Linux, theres no reason not to have 100% speed and sound emus just like the pc has. If developers would get behind this thing it would blow up the homebrew scence, but it seems people are more occupied with the PSP and DS to even bother.

Yea I dont realy care about comercial games I just want homebrew and movies are they for sale yet?

The gp2x is coming along nicely. The first batch was a bit wonky (i got mine from the first batch and have no probs).  The emus are looking good, Genesis/Megadrive is spot on, NEOGEO has come along great guns in the past couple of weeks alone and will see metal slug 3 running without problems, DIVX plays a treat as do mp3's (not sure about ogg etc), MAME albeit an older version which requires buggering with roms if your romset is new runs a treat, Of course SCUMM works.  Yes SNES is dodgy at the moment but it will get there sooner rather than later i am sure, there is the prospect of a proper version of AUE working and of course not forgetting caSTaway which is simply divine

It is believed the XGP wont be homebrew friendly.

They should be available in Korea the 4th quarter of this year (perhapse September 11, 2006), for XGP mini and XGP phat. Rumor is there will be a worldwide release by early 2007.

GP2X may well be the best bet for movies and homebrew overall, it has TV out and a more or less completely open source firmware and SDK. At this stage nobody really knows how open the new Gamepark consoles will be.  The GP2X can't run old GP32 stuff and vice versa.

Dont forget to add the now appearing BOB (Break Out Box), which has USB ports that allows you to plugin keyboards and joypads and other dev type stuff.

now take your Genesis/megadrive, atari st, pcengine, neogeo to your friends house, hook it upto the tv and play 2p fifa96 or whatever is your fancy
