Fat DS screen cannot recalibrate ....

Hi,

My fat DS has suffered through much abuses (by younger children especially) and for some reason now its touch screen does not register stylus positioning properly. The half right area of the screen works fine, but from the center to the left area everything written there will be registered a few pixels off to the left, which is very annoying for games that requires precision (e.g. Point Blank, etc)

I tried running the calibration from the DS configuration screen, but it just produces a loop where i have to keep on tapping the three dots at the top left, middle and bottom right corners.

The DS has no more warranty so I guess I probably can't send it back to Nintendo for repair :( Anybody has any idea what to do to fix it?

Well, if you can't get the calibration to work then the screen might be busted. YOu could try replacing it with another touchscreen.

At this point, it probably is easier just to replace it with a DS lite   But yeah, how difficult is it to do, and where to get a replacement screen?

Well if you have the cash, it would be better to just get the lite. Hell you might be able to trade it in at EB since it still "works". It's not hard to replace the screen, well maybe if you haven't taken anything apart before. But replacement screens can be found on ebay.

Ok, I'll see what I can do. Thanks a lot for your advices, 754boy.

If you've been thinking about replacing one of your DS screens, or something, then watch this video first. If you don't understand Spain-ish this video is still very educational to watch.

I recently fixed a DS phat with similar touch screen problems.  The solution was to remove some crumbs stuck in edge of the screen.
