Quote from: "DeVS"There is also now a usb exploit to allow us to run game isos off a pc hard drive so no more being limited to 1 to 4 gigs of space.

a bit late on that, the USB for DAX has been out for a while

DeVS

But it was just added to the new Devhook 41d.

You can scroll down to read about it, but to download it you gotta sign up: http://www.planetpsp.org/news.php

Great PSP site. They spooned feed us with Devhook with ALL the firmware flash files included. Plus there very freindly when people ask questions unlike most other PSP boards, lol.

Quote from: "DeVS"Looks like people now have kernal access to the PSP with firmware 2.6. Since 2.6 and 2.7 use the same security it's just a matter of days/hours before 2.7 is broke also. Whats this mean? It means all the bad ass shit you can do with a PSP at firmware 1.5 you will be able to do with any current PSP firmware version. All the emus all the game loaders, all the homebrew. I feel sorry for the poor fucks who are trying to sell the PSP mod chip now. The mod chip is crazy expensive and the hardest mod to install of any console ever made and now you can do all the same "features" of the mod chip for FREE with no hardware moding at all. Glory day! There is also now a usb exploit to allow us to run game isos off a pc hard drive so no more being limited to 1 to 4 gigs of space.

LOL I hope I didn't talk someone into buying one of these.

Yes, but what happens when Sony issues another firmware update and new games releases don't work without the update?  It's going to continue to be a cat and mouse game.  The U.P. ModChip allows you to have two versions of firmware, the Sony controlled firmware version, and the latest hacked firmware version.

It's also still a good tool for PSP "brick" recovery.

Yep, that's why a modchip will always be the better solution.

ReRuss

yea but you also have to consider PSP goin sorta xbox with it's firmware , a chip allows custom firmwares to be developed , and there may be a way to just flash a custom firmware onto a non-chipped PSP soon that will be safe enough to use without chips , and it could be updated to support newer games n all

MaDDaWg836

so your suggesting that there eventually be some sort of TSOP solution? or that the firmware will be hacked so much that a custom one can updated on regular PSP's just like Sony's?

ImmortalNinja

I dont know why so many people seem to be so anti-this modchip.
It maybe a bit pricey but then most modchips are, espcailly when they are first released.
Installation is a bit of a bitch, but again most modchips instalations are nowdays.
As for it being unnecessary, that maybe true but then flashme is also uncessary but its more convient than say flashme2. Indeed there have been soft mods for the xbox and ps2 I just found using their modchips far easier.

The bonus with the modchip as I see it is that it can run two firmwares at the same time.
True they have found kernel access to 2.6 but how long before Sony releases a fixed updated firmware? People will then have to stop upgrading, much like everyone not upgrading from 1.5. There will then be a lag time before the new firmware is exploited.
At least with the modchip you can upgrade one firmware to play new games and use another one to play ISO's.

yea i agree, im still never going to upgrade my 1.5 to anything even if an exploit is found...well only a custom bios maybe

DeVS

Now theres a working 2.6 downgrader,lol. 2.6 downgrader + devhook 41d = poor poor mod chips sales.

Meh,
I'm still going to buy one.
The Epsilon bios just seems so much more convienient and easier to handle...
but then again I have a fairly well paying job....

Oh for those that want to read about the new downgrader:
