NesDS save files

What sort of save file does NesDS output?  Does the save file have the common .sav extension or a .nss extension?

The reason I ask about the save file extension is because I'm using the WIP version of NesDS, and I've read that it outputs .nss files for its saves.  I'm using a SCLite, and I've realized that it won't successfully save to the SCLite; no .nss files were written, but the rom's .sav file was modified; so it seems that NesDS does do .sav files.

On the other hand, maybe NesDS wrote the .nss file but corrupted the microSD file system, resulting in an "invisible" .nss file somewhere in the FAT.  What do you think?  Any help is appreciated, because if NesDS only writes .nss files, I've a corrupted microSD that needs reformatting.

I am about to come to the conclusion that saves do not work on the SC lite...  i have been looking for the past two days since i got my sc lite and started running nesds...  =(  i heard the guy that made nesds stopped workin on it too... a shame since it runs almost every nes game near perfect... the built in nes emu on the sc lite is not as good at all...  and only if saves worked for nesds on the lite..  it would be perfect to play the longer great nes games at your own pace using instant saves....  well if you find anything out  PM me and i will do the same if i find any new info bionic...
