im pretty new to the scene. i have a sc lite and im thinking about getting an m3 lite. ive read some posts about having to turn off a game and turning it back on to properly save a game. is this true for ds roms? lets say in castlevania, i save a game at a save point then id have to reset the device before it properly saves?

Well if you already have a sc lite, it frankly isn't worth the trouble to get a m3 lite since they both have their (dis)advantages. They both support nearly all ds games and have no problems running the most populair homebrew. The only reason for you to get an m3 lite is the GBA support.

In game you'll save regularly, nothing is different, play as you would normally (at this moment, it saves to battery).  Next time you boot up your DS, you'll see a quick screen saying it's backing up the Castlevania save (it takes a fraction of a second).  This means that it's backing up the save from the battery to the SD card.
