(also posted this on Supercard idealbb - apologies....)

Greetings all - just got meself one of these MiniSD Supercard jobbies and so far it's been a sterling performer. There's just one thing i can't figure out, despite all the forum posts and guides i've been reading.

Obviously, i've been dallying with some NDS ROMS (who hasn't, eh?) and games like Super Mario 64 and Nintendogs save their games properly when requested, and upon restarting the system, i can resume from where i left off.
My question is - how do you save your NDS game state when the game in question doesn't have a save function per se (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! and Cooking Mama for example). I shut off the system , and when i play the game again all my progress has vanished.
I understand how saving works for GBA games and have managed to suss that out, but is there a workaround for NDS titles?
Can anyone offer any suggestions? I have the latest firmware and software btw.
Here's hoping :)

The Supercard does not support "save game state" for DS games, only with GBA games.

Riiiight. Cool. Thanks for giving me a straight answer. So, would i be right in assuming that games of that ilk need to be played all the way through in one go? Thats quite a task :)

Are there any plans for them to add save state for NDS titles to the device? Thats quite a missed opportunity IMHO. Do any other similar devices have this feature?

No, games should save just fine.  You would not be right in assuming that :).  Cooking Mama saves by itself, it doesn't have a manual save function.  Most nds games should be able to save.  A bunch of games just auto save like some mario ones.  Do you have a .sav file for your games?

bitblt

Yes, the Supercard supports normal in-game save functionality like a real game cart.

Cheers again for the info - i do have a .sav file for all my games, but alot of games don't seem to save at all (the ones i mentioned in my first post for example). Am i possibly doing something wrong, or missing something important? Is how i arrange the files on my MiniSD card important? I have them all in subfolders, for each game.

rorix_bladewing5

The .sav file has to be in the same folder as the .dsq file.

And if you rename .dsq files, you need to make sure and rename .sav to the exact same name.  Also, verify you are patching clean dump roms with Nintenren or something.
