Can I trim ROMs for DS-Xtreme?

I know the DS-Xtreme uses "clean" ROMs, and it's cool that it doesn't need patching, but it's a waste of space if you compare it to trimmed ROMs on the Supercard.

Is there a way to trim clean ROMs, so that more can be fit into the DS-Xtreme limited internal storage?

  :?      :)

sonicwind

Don't think there is since it IS drag and drop theres no patching so no data can be deleted.  That is the downside to it.

sneef

I think trimming padding off should be possible.

i'll find out tomorrow when my ds-x arrives

gamekill

Nice, Sneef! I hope you can sort this out. I believe, too, that it could be done. It's all zeros right?

:)  :D    :D  :o

Mailyfesux

isnt there a trimming rom tutorial without the use of supercard software somewhere on this site?

Devil_Spawn

this is what i use if i need to trim a rom and cant use the pathcher

gamekill

Hey Devil_Spawn THANKS!!! It worked!

I also found something else at the DS-X forums, a complete DS-X Manager for Windows. It has a GUI, displays all the roms in your PC HD Roms folder (with gamename and size, as well as expected trimmed size), and also on a separate window all ROMs insid your DS-X, allowing you to transfer ROMs and trim on the fly. It also manages save files. Very nice tool... (must be registered to get file): http://forums.ds-xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=1050

EDIT: I can get the DS-X Manager for Windows to open, but I get an error while doing so, and the application doesn't recognize my DS-X. When I try to force detect it at the application I keep getting the same error...

DSLazy (google it) has a Rom Trimmer that works just fine.
White NDSL / Flashme 7 / DSLink / EZ 3-in-1

The windows DS-X manager uses the trimmer from dslazy ( or did, I dunno ) well anyway it's the very same one Devil_Spawn posted above... has anyone ever found any problems with it? because the windows manager guy on the ds-x forums suspects it trims too much; but I tried to make it over cautious...

Devil_Spawn

yeah its just teh trimmer from dslazy, but its faster to use that way,
never not worked after triming here

gamekill

I had a problem with the Dslazy trimmer, it won't give a valid output for  tetris. Seems like it does indeed have minor problems. But all other stuff worked great! Oh and it seems it only trims when it "thinks" it's worth to do so. If a ROM is gonna be trimmed from 34MB to 31MB for instance, it doesn't get trimmed at all. That's a bit of a shame though, because on a DS-X every MB counts!

Oh and the DS Organizer is working now, there's a new version out. I tested it but haven't really used it for now, because I put everything I wanted into the DS-X using Dslazy trimmer already. For now.

:D  :)  :o  :D  :)

sarah

Just tried the DS-X manager.
Very nice app, works a treat and very fast.
Uses a different process to the other trimmer, much faster.

ratx

gamekill + sarah, okey doke cheers for the feedback. Yeah from reading the thread on the ds-x forums the windows manager guy is doing it the "proper" way so yup will be faster... but.. but wheres the fun in that ;)

edit:

heres an updated trim.exe

http://l33t.spod.org/ratx/DS/dslazy/trim-0.2.zip

its a lot faster and hopefully now shouldn't remove too much
