Many questions about Supercard use on DS.

Bear with me, I'm new to all this....

First off, I DO NOT care about playing NDS or GBA roms on my DS, I'll just buy official versions of any of those games that I want.  What I'm VERY interested in is playing NES and SNES roms on my DS....and maybe a few homebrew apps (not games).  While I may be interested in  other NES and SNES games, I'm particularly interested in the Punch-Out games.  Since Nintendo has no intention of bringing such classic games out for GBA or DS, I'm left to finding my own way to do this on the go.

I have an original style DS bought at launch about 2 years ago....it has firmware 2 as far as I can tell.  Even if I bought a DSlite, I still plan to get the standard size Supercard to retain universal compatibility with ALL GBA's and DS's.

On to the actual questions:

1. Would Supercard allow me to play NES and SNES roms...particularly Punch-Out?

2. Which is the better version of Supercard to get, SD or CF or does it matter? (the mini version will not work for me as I have an old style DS..or is that incorrect?)

3. Would I need SuperKey just to play those games? (remember, I don't plan to play any DS or GBA roms through it, but I may be interested in some homebrew organizer-type apps (not games) )

4. I would like to avoid flashing my DS with a hacked firmware. Will this stop me from achieving my goal?

5. Besides the roms themselves, what all would I need to do to get all this working for me?  Links please.

6. Please list any info I may need that didn't think to ask about.

Thanks in advance from a potential Supercard owner that wants to unlock some extra potential in his DS.

First off, NES emulation is near perfect.  I own a SC Lite which comes with a built-in NES emulator, PocketNES, and I must say that I'm very happy with its performance and various options.  Others opt for DSNES to play their NES roms on their DS, and while it sports certain features that PocketNES lacks--rewind function, touch screen menus, and suchlike--I always go back to PocketNES.

You may be disappointed with the NES version of Mike Tyson's Punch Out.  All the NES rom dumps of this game always have graphical glitches here and there.  The graphical errors are really apparent on the big boxers--Honda, Soda Popinski etc.  The game play is there; it's just the minor sprite errors that are annoying.  Maybe there's a good dump of this rom floating around that I've missed?

SNES emulation on the DS is still in its infancy.  Probably the best SNES emulator for the DS is SnezziDS.  The latest version is a major improvement, but there are still many games that SnezziDS chokes on.  I've not tried Super Punch-Out yet, so maybe someone else can inform you on its playability.  My point is this: SNES emulation on the DS still has a ways to go.

I suggest reading my flashcart and SuperCard guide for everything you need to know about flashcarts and the SuperCard:

Flashcart Guide: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=27045

SuperCard Guide: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=31463

Questions:

1. Yes.

2. SuperCard miniSD is the best if you have the DS Phat.

3. Yes, since the NES and SNES emus are DS homebrew. I don't think all NES and SNES emus are DS homebrew and if they are GBA then you don't need the SuperKey.

4. All you need is the SuperKey if you do not wish to flash your DS.

5 & 6. You'll need a SuperCard miniSD, miniSD (any size), and a SuperKey (you might not need if you don't want DS homebrew or games). You might need a card reader if you don't already have an SD version reader.

And a card reader as I said but the links above should help you.

Excellent!  Thank you!  I'll likely be purchasing everything I need in a couple weeks.  This thread will be my reference.  I have a new job and it's piecework....I'm faster than they expected, so  I'm soaking them dry on the amount per piece they're paying me...BWAHAHAHA!  8)

Yep, 4 of our 6 PC's have multi-card card readers.  :D

I'll scope the links you provided when I get home...gotta run!

Thanks again.
