DS-X: First Impressions

Got mine today in the post.
Haven’t really had much time to play with it as I'm at work but here's my first impression:

- Feels kinda flimsy, especially when compared to regular carts.
The plastic casing feels thinner than the plastic used for normal carts and the DS-link. And the top panel is somewhat loose fitting. Because the USB port is the same height as the cart it feels distantly separate from the rest of the cart.

- Led’s, bright! Flashy! Cool!

- By far the easiest cart to upload data too. No patching just drag and drop. Damn fast transfer speeds too!
However, plugging and unplugging the USB cable, because the port is quite tight, it feels like it might break it. Also its virtually impossible to plug the cable in without making the cart eject from the DS.

- GUI booting time not too bad but still noticeable. No where near as fast as the supercard, and like the DS-Link has to write save game data to the eeprom on boot.

- Game Booting time seems quite fast. However there is no progress report only white screens so this may mess with perception. May do an actual comparison later to check this out.

- I know the DS-X is meant to be really easy to use, but come on! Any kind of documentation would have been nice. The box contains the DS-X and nothing else! Instructions should be included even if no-ones going to read them.
Case in point, there is an instant boot feature. If you turn this on the DS will auto boot the last game played when its turned on. To override this you have to press A while it boots.
However this tidbit of info can only be found on the DS-X forums. So if you had no internet access and turned this on you’d be stuck for a while trying to figure how to get back the DS-X menu.

- While in the GUI the DS power lights annoyingly pulses. No idea why, although this can probably be turned off, but again with no indication of how. Also I cant seem to scroll up and down a list with the touch screen…..

Overall, I’m really impressed at how easy this device is to use. The interface is simple and effective and getting data onto it is as painless and as fast as it gets.
It is let down however by its flimsy appearing build quality and lack of clear documentation.

I will be doing the good old battery test later today.

sounds good, the flimsyness puts me off it tbh, if im spending $125 on it, i want it to stay in one piece

ImmortalNinja

Its not actually all that badly put together.
Just the plastics a bit thin.
The boot times are by default pretty bad though.

Not sure how well their offical forum is going to go though.
Any mention of games and your post will be deleted.
They even deleted my relative boot times thread beacuse I used Mario Kart as the test.....
(Or was that because the DS-X took longest to boot)

there is no denying that it is better than supercard but for them to not end up like Lik-Sang that dont want to reveal anything about ROMS and stuff since it is more or less forbidden

I think it certainly does much more than the Supercard.
But for me of all the flashkarts I still prefer the supercard.
Almost all the flash karts do the one thing they were designed to do. Play games.
For me I prefer a cart that boots quickly than a nice looking configurable UI.
I can understand how this would be good for lots of people though: no waiting for problematic game patches, no patching, no flashing.
I really like it but it not flawless. A couple of times the DS screens has shown static like flickering and the PW2 save screen flickers on the save screen.
I guess this is due to saving to the card.

does this card support ds-gba link, and does it have a RTS function?
