M3's site says that supercard damages the CF and SD card forever and it happens usually .

is it true ??

HAHAHAHHAHAHA

LOL at M3.  Boy are they running scared.  They have something practically identical to Supercard but are slow out of the starting blocks.  They are now slinging mud, desperately hoping some sticks LOL.

I would be extremely surprised if the supercard could damage any CF or SD card.  Those things are sure built to take some punishment !

I doubt its true. I've been using the same CF card for 10 months and it works fine. I can even use it in my camera if i need to.

well i put my supercard into a friends gba sp and we were afraid it would fuck up the sp game slot because it some kind of jammed half the way out of the slot. we could not get the thing out of the sp without some violence. was kinda strange. lets see how it fits into my micro i'll get next week

Damage on a CF? Read this. It is really hard to damage CF cards.

memyselfandi

my card has never been damaged, the m3 team are full of bull sh*t

If the supercard was using it as a RAM extension (which it doesn't - the 32MB internal is more than enough), then yes, after a few years, the card would be a dud. However, in reality, it won't. And, anyway, even if it did, the same problem would hit the M3 ;)

ha, mud slinging to sell their shitty product.  My SD card works just as well as when I bought it, and I can and do use it in the supercard, for transferring data betweeen computers, in a digital camera, etc without any problems.  I've never heard of a product being able to damage a SD/CF card with regular use, that's just a big lie.  Another reason to stay away from the M3.

thank you all

That is such a crock of shit. My SC has done nothing to my CF cards. As a matter of fact, I still can use my CF cards in my digital cam and my printer without any flaws.

Sounds like M3 guys are getting desperate since the SC is doing pretty much everything the M3 is claiming to do

The SC doesn't even write to the card's filesystem - there's absolutely no chance of it damaging the cards. It can only overwrite the contents of existing files on the card - this is why you can't save a game unless a .sav file already exists.

There's no way of damaging a CF/SD card from software (though you can render the filesystem unusable such that it has to be reformatted quite easily - the SC shouldn't even be capable of this, however) - only hardware faults like shorts or voltage overloads can do them permanent harm.

I've read some where many years ago about the write cycles of flash memory devices. There is supposed to be a limited number of write cycles (pretty huge number in the order of thousands) that each device is capable of before failing. I don't know how much have the technology matured over the years but these days alot of manufacturers seem to offer "Lifetime Warranty" on their flash based products, so its probably not applicable anymore.

If the above still holds true, probably, yes, the SC will damage your cards, but only in the same way as other devices that uses your flash card like digital cameras, mp3 players and M3 of course. In fact,  I wouldn't even call that "damage", I would call it "wear".

To counter the "wear" I've always stick to the rule of buying a few sizes and using only what I need. i.e. if i'm gonna be shooting 256MB worth of pictures, I'm not going to slot in a 512MB card, so that the "write cycles" on the entire card is the same and not uneven. My rationale is that the entire card will wear out at the same time and not the first 256MB that wears out (due to constant re-use) and rendering the remaining 256MB (unused because only using first 256MB) useless. I don't know if it makes sense at all, its just sort of a "religion" kinda thing rather than a "scientific" thing.

Rumour mongering on competitor products is a very dirty trade tactic that should make consumers wary of the party making the claim. I would personally always stay away from people who make baseless claims about the competition. Its just... too low to sink...

Its like M$ saying "Using FireFox makes you grow horns..."
