Has anyone tried a GC 'freeloader' disc on a Wii?

I use a freeloader disc to boot US games on my EU Gamecube, since we get a really poor selection over here. I'll be getting a Wii soon, but I'm concerned that the freeloader might not work with it. Has anyone had a go?

Kotaku published an article a few days back saying the Freeloader was a no-go on Wii, and the lots of people commented that it was working fine for them. After a bunch of posts it appears to have been hashed out that Freeloader version 1.06b DOES WORK, but not other versions. (the lower case b is significant - 1.06B apparently does not work)

I am very hopeful Datel (who else) will release a loader disc for Wii that will work for both Wii and GCN. My inlaws flew in from Japan to visit for the holidays, and my son's getting a Japanese Wii for christmas.   Of course, they already saved me at least $250, prolly more, by buying the console, but importing those games can be expensive!

my max drive pro disc will not boot, but my action replay (with freeloader) does work.

Has anyone tried the emulator hack and the disk copy hack using this?

It would be interesting to know if anyone has actually reproduced the you-tube stuff and got the emulators working

i have gotten emulation to work fine on the wii.  i don't know what the "disc copy hack" is though..

after watching that video, i think it's fake.

I think there are two wii's, and they started off with wii 1 on video channel 1, and when the camera tilts down to look at the dvd-r on the floor, they switched to wii 2 on video channel 2 (which is the one with the backup in it, and the SD card that he inserted into it).  After clicking on the "wii bootloader" jpg, they switched back to wii 1, on video channel 1, which had a retail copy of twilight princess in it.

I believe that my theory makes sense, but I may be wrong.. supposedly we'll find out january 1st, 2007.  the supposed release date of the "loader"

Certainly, a lot of the commentators argued that it was fake, but it certainly looks more convincing that the Ravin Rabids equivalent video. Can only hope that it's real given that children consider that DVDs should be treated with little respect. I am continually cleaning them when I get the shout that the PC disks don't work. It would be nice to use back-ups rather than the real thing!

As you say, let's wait until 1/1/07- maybe they will reveal it as a joke.

I think its kinda lame how people like this would go through great lengths to fake something. If they really did get this to work, it would be easier and more credible to just tell people how to do it instead of making lame videos.
