Apparently Paradox already ripped a Wii image.

Red Steel. I have no idea where the download is. *checks torrent sites*

Ehh... I'm not so certain. The fact that they called it one of the best Wii games out is almost indication enough that you should be skeptical. Then again, paradox has a long history... It should be interesting to see if it works when someone eventually figures out how a way to play said backups.

If it is real, I'll be very surprised, I'd figure the protection would have been quite a bit harder to beat looking at how long it took to backup gamecube games.

It took along time to boot back ups of the GC but the isos game quick. CD/DVD is the easiest part of the system to hack and just because the iso's hit this soon doesn't mean we will be playing them any time soon.

The games weren't being released until the hole was found in phantasy star online, which wasn't released until May of the following year. So while it was sooner then I remembered, it still took longer then just over a month.

DeVS

Well if they used the GC to dump it like rumored, they had a head start. Like you said though I guess we wont know if this is even real until a mod comes out. Im guessing it is though.

Yeah I'm really interested in the method, and whether this method will be duplicatable in the future or if nintendo will be able to find a way to circumvent this in the future.

Well It is one of the best Wii games.  I love Red Steel.  Most reviewer could adjust to the controls,  I did and so did my cousin and brother.  It is a great game that doesnt deserve anything under a 7.  The game has awesome level design and the controls do work, just dont expect PC FPS control because the Wii cant do that.

Nintendo made their discs easier to hack. Correct me if I'm wrong... but a Wii disc is just a DVD with a weird file system, right? So Paradox patched the drivers for a normal DVD-ROM drive so that it would read the Wii discs. Incoming, yes we know (or think we know) works. Outgoing, maybe not. There'd also have to be a program to write to this file system, correct?

Word on the street is that they used a Samsung drive (and others think that it's the same model used to rip X360 games).

Then again, this could all be fake, but if it is at least now we have more ideas about how to do it. ;)
