DSOrganize and Firmware 1.7 on Supercard Lite (microSD)?

Hi!  I've been searching the forums, and I'm still not sure what the answer is, and I'm very new to this, so if you would bear with me...

I recently purchased an onyx DS Lite, a SuperKey, a SuperCard Lite, and a 1GB A-Data microSD card.  I formatted my microSD using FAT (not FAT32), and DSLinux (with links), DSAIM, Rein.SC.nds and WiFi Lib Test are all running beautifully.  Now, I want DSOrganize, DSLua, and Pocket Kanji DS.  No joy.  My SuperCard Lite is running firmware 1.7.

The best I can get from Pocket Kanji is a black screen and a message saying "FAT_init Not OK" (after patching it with scmhbp.exe -- otherwise, I get white screens).

DSOrganize 2.3 Blue and DSLua run for the most part, but they both have problems writing to the microSD card.  DSLua fails to run "11 - FileOutput.lua", no matter what version I use and no matter what I try to patch it with.  Depending on what I do to it, I might get black screens, and I might get error messages.  Either way, it doesn't run.  All the other test scripts run just fine.  DSOrganize seems to make an attempt to save, and it's a toss-up whether I get nothing or whether it decides to corrupt the file system on the microSD.  When it decides to corrupt the file system, it creates empty files that can't be moved or changed or anything until I format my microSD (yet again -- I hope it's not bad to keep reformatting the microSD).

So, my questions are...
[list=1]
  • Does anybody have DSOrganize, DSLua, or Pocket Kanji DS running on a Supercard Lite with firmware 1.7?  If so, please, what am I doing wrong?  I see reports that people have DSOrganize working with firmware 1.7, so I have hope, but as far as I can tell, it makes a difference that I have a SuperCard Lite instead of a slower one.  It sounds like the slower SuperCards work, regardless of firmware, but not the Lite...?

  • Does anybody have the above homebrew working with the Supercard Lite and firmware 1.63?  If so, has anybody successfully downgraded their SuperCard Lite firmware from 1.7 to 1.63?  I'm very worried about downgrading because the SuperCard site says that people have been bricking their SuperCards that way.  I have enough other stuff working that I don't want to brick my SuperCard.

  • I was skimming some sites, and I read something interesting that seemed to imply that someone might've recompiled DSOrganize to work properly on SuperCard Lite with firmware 1.7, but there was no link to anything.  Did I misread it, was the post a hoax, or is there some magical version of DSOrganize out there that fixes the file writing problems that hasn't turned up in any of my web searches?  Is there maybe a new patcher that will fix these problems?

  • Rather unrelated, but is there a Stepmania port for the DS Lite?  I have DDRLite running, and I appreciate the effort, but having to reboot after every song gets to be a bit cumbersome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi

Cetain upgrades will downgrade your supercard firmware.

In other words. If I run updatexxx.bin, my supercard firware will be downgraded to firmware version xxx.

However...

Be aware, some updates used upgrade files that were "updatexxx.bin" while others are updatexxx.scu. You must downgrade to an upgrade that used a .bin file. If you don't you will brick your supercard. I don't know the latest update that used a .bin file. You'll have to find out for yoursef. (unless someone who knows would be nice enouph to post wihch one.)

I don't think that the update files are archieved at the official site, so download it for this site.

Once you downgrade to an old version, you can upgrade to version 1.63 by running the .scu update files IN ORDER!!! If not, You might brick your supercard. I don't know.

sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I'm not always good about expaining things clearly. If you couldn't understand me tenba, say so and hopefully some one else on this form that is very nice will try to say what I said more clearly.

I hope you could understand me and if you did hope this helps.

Thanks for the response!

I think I understand what you're saying.  In my own words, there are two different types of firmware updates: .bin and .scu.  They were .bin for old firmware and the latest firmware, and the .scu updates were in between.  1.7 won't run .scu updates without bricking the SuperCard, so I have to go find an old .bin update so I can downgrade to that first and then I can use the 1.63 .scu update to get to 1.63.

However, as far as I understand things, the SuperCard Lite (microSD) is relatively new.  Would there have been any old .bin firmware updates for the SuperCard Lite?  I found what looks to be a firmware archive at http://l33t.spod.org/ratx/DS/SC/old/ but the only old versions marked "microSD" are .scu.

In any case, thanks for the information!  Even if I can't find an old .bin firmware, it's still useful to know.

Bummer.  I can't downgrade then?  Does that mean I'm out of luck for running DSOrganize unless I buy either another SuperCard Lite with older firmware or some slower model of SuperCard?

Hi

Yes... unless...

If someone who ownes a supercard micro SD and has not upgraded yet would do the liberty of dumping there firmware, I think that would do the trick, although I'm not positive.

It would make sense...

Thanks for the link.  I'm sorry about the inaccurate terminology.  I meant that I'm out of luck for saving files in DSOrganize from a DS Lite with a SuperCard Lite running firmware 1.7.  I can get DSOrganize to run, but I can't save anything, and that's what I need.

Hi

The calendar, todo list, ect all save. The only thing that won't save is when you edit a txt file.
