"Nintendo is planning to announce another revision of the Nintendo DS sometime in 2007. This revision will give the DS bigger screens, either 3.5 or 3.8 inches compared to the 3 inch screens now."

Keep in mind this is just a rumour.

What are your thoughts about this? Personally, I'm not very psyched, since the Lite hasn't even been out for a year yet in Japan.
They better not add new functions!

Haha, I knew something like this would happen. Nintendo is the king of redesigns and remakes, and I'm personally excited about it.
Setup: Onyx DS Lite, CycloDS + Kingston 8GB MicroSDHC; Camo GBA Micro, EZIV + Kingston 2GB MicroSD

Wow. If this is real, I think that it will be the first Nintendo system to be redesigned more than one time.

Oh. You're right. Well.. then I change my theory to state that it would be the first Nintendo console to be completely redisigned more than once. :)

For that matter, you could say the OG was resdesigned many times, with the same name just different ending so:

GB->GB slimline(pocket)->GB color->GBA->GBA SP->GB Micro->GBA SP brighter

Ugly fake, IMO.
Come on, people. The DSL got released in June THIS YEAR. 6 months ago. Unless it's either planned to be released in a couple years (at least end of '07) or it's a totally different handheld, I'd say this is a completely faked rumor.

I also would be shocked if they bring out a new version of the ds with bigger screens, as they just released the DSlite. Now new colors,etc... i can see. Not to mention merchandise losses of the dslite stuff.

Hmm... for me it's a tossup.  I'd probably buy one even though I've got a DS and Lite already.  As someone on there points out though, in order to have a larger screen and not break compatibility, the dot pitch would have to be reduced, making the pixelization already visible in many DS games far worse.

So I'd say, there's a very high liklihood of another DS revision at some point in the future, but I think it would probably do some of the following:
-Reduce the DS to half its current thickness
-Remove the GBA slot
-Integrate the Opera memory expansion into it
-Integrate the rumble function into it
-Improve battery life at high brightness settings, possibly by using emerging display technologies, like OLED or something
-Possibly add some new Wii-to-DS feature(s), like downloading old games for your DS via the virtual console
-Improve the buttons and d-pad a little
-Improve the shell material, possibly eliminating any weight reduction the smaller size would bring, but also making it more durable
-Digital volume control, rather than the analog one that sometimes gets moved by accident, is difficult to control precisely, and the first 25% is 0 volume

If they did at least a few of the above (especially removing GBA slot and reducing the overall size), they'd have at least me as a sure customer.  The only things I can say I dislike about the Lite are the new d-pad and button style (although I like the new shoulder buttons), and the sense that it just feels less durable than the phat DS.

Huh? Bigger screens screams fake to me.

If this news is true why are none of the big gaming news sites saying anything about it? The DSL is selling like hotcakes. You don't fix what isn't broken.
