Maybe a stupid question, but is there a way to control your tv?vcr, etc.  with your DS?

sinkhead

The TV would have to have a WiFi receiver, and there's none that I know.

OR the ds would need infrared [see infrareDS]

I apologize because I cannot give you a name of a specific product, but there are adapters that you can plug into the headphone jack of a device and with the right music files, you can send infrared signals.

I remember this because I somehow found a thread with some people talking about making mp3 players into infrared remotes. Basically, they are small nub-like devices that have infrared lights on them and you plug them into the headphone jack. Using a program and a receiver, you can point the remote of the infrared signal you want to record and convert the signal into a sound file. You convert this file to mp3 or wav, and transfer the file to your media device. With the infrared adapter plugged into your line out, it takes the sound file of the recorded infrared signal and outputs it.... a remote.

If I remember correctly, the way a remote works is by flashing a series of infrared signals. If the signal matches the one the TV has recorded in its memory, it does the function assigned. Example: 4 quick flashes, turns the TV on. 2 quick flashes, change the channel and so on. So the recording of a signal looks like a line with a few large blips where the pulses are.

Since the DS has the capability of playing mp3 files and other sound files, this should be possible. The only annoyance is that the headphone port is pointing towards your body instead of away from you so you'd have to either be reflective to infrared signals or use some sort of extension cord to make the bean point forwards towards the TV.

Again, sorry I can't provide you with a link or name but I'm sure you can find something online that will do this.

Or turn the DS around and make the display upside-down.
