I was going to order the DS WiFi adapter for my computer, but instead i was wondering if i could just use my wireless card on my laptop?  It is an 802.11 b/g PC Card if that helps.

Wait... a DS WiFi adapter for your computer? You mean to use with your computer... OK.

If you have a wireless card, though, then you must have a router, right? So you can just use the router...
 like cream soda...

Yes i think you can. You would just have to set up adhoc mode and then i think you just bridge the internet connection and the wireless. A long time ago i just tryed to connect to the card and it worked but i didn't try any internet functions. Btw i used a toshiba laptop wireless b adaptor.

I have a crappy Dell laptop and an equally crappy wireless card.  But it does say 802.11 b/g so i assume the g is what the DS would use?  Anyway, i just want to be able to play my games online at home and use the opera browser (at home)...but i don't have a wireless router, just a regular one.

So if someone could help me set up my wireless card on my laptop to let my DS connect through it, that would be great!

I was also wondering if this was possible. Unfortunately, I tested it out a bit and couldn't get it to work. Under Windows XP Pro, I shared my wireless internet connection, and then created an ad-hoc wireless connection named 'ds'. My DSlite did not find this while searching for networks so I manually entered the SSID but it still would not connect.

Any suggestions?

SynGamer

Yes, suggestions would be great :)

So...i have my wireless card in (no access points here) and my regular ethernet up and running.  Where do i go from here?

Below is what i get when i select the option to 'Bridge Connections'.

Whoa, ok, i selected BOTH (duh...) of my connections and selected the option to bridge and it worked...now what?

I tried to set up a wireless connection for Clubhouse games and it said that the security settings were not recognized.  I probably still need to actually set up the bridged connection as an access point...any help?

what happens when you turn off the firewall for the wireless? (both windows and 3rd party)

SynGamer

Nothing.  Still says something about security issues...a friend said something about creating ad-hoc with my bridged connection, or something....

Thanks for the link...i tried what it said, but some of the instructions didn't match up with my computer.  SO looks like i'll have to go and buy the actual USB wifi :(

i haven't been updating myself on hardware prices but getting a wireless router may be cheaper. just a suggestion though.

Oops, sorry. I have been away from my computer for a while.

mud: I don't use software firewall so I don't think I was blocked. I think that an ad-hoc wireless connection is not broadcasted as an AP, which is why the DS doesn't detect it.

Syn: Not sure, but I think bridging a connection combines two connections into one. The only information I am working with is before I had a router I used my desktop system to share an internet connection. I had two integrated NICs, so one went to the cable modem, and the other went to my laptop. I 'shared' the connection that had the internet access, but I'm not sure if I bridged them.

Another time, while at a friend's house I was connected to his LAN, and shared the connection. I then created an ad-hoc network to another laptop and they were able to use his internet access. That is pretty much the same approach I took with the DS, unless I forgot something...
