CF Card Corrupted

So I was playing Zelda - Minish Cap from my SC/CF, and I left the room... and forgot about it. The battery ran down.

Anyway, when I powered it all back up... it said it couldn't read the CF card. So I slapped it into the computer... and the computer couldn't read it either.

When I put it in the computer, the machine literally hangs. I've never seen anything like it before. If I have it in the usb reader and the usb reader in the usb port and turn the machine on, it'll hang at the "Athlon64 3400" notice. It won't even count RAM. If I insert it at any point during the boot process, the machine hangs. If I wait until XP comes up and insert it, it just tells me it's corrupt - after hanging explorer a bit.

I tried a couple recovery programs, one even said it was a 512MB card but none could read from it.

This seems really weird - how can I repair it? I've resigned myself to having lost all my saved games and such, and I've bought a new PNY (Toshiba) 1GB card at Staples ($19 this week, yay!), but it would be a shame to just THROW OUT this SanDisk 512MB...

Have you tried cleaning the CF? 409 works great for me.
 like cream soda...

try
start -> run -> cmd
format (drive): /fs fat32

that maybe takes some time but it worked for me. had the same prob.

He doesn't want to lose his saves though, and formatting erases all information on the disc

I'm ok with losing the saves. I mean, I can always do a data recovery AFTER the format, y'know?

But... if I try to format with WinXP's command shell it says (after 10 minutes or so of thinking) that the device is ... busy. :(

Is you can't format it with command prompt then I don't know if your data is recoverable at all

Yeah, me either. But I'm a little concerned that running the DS battery down with the SC in can cause this kind of hard damage to a CF card!

Makes me paranoid, y'know?

Actually I'm pretty sure it's just the partition table that's corrupted. If I can scrounge up one of those IDE->CF adapters, I can probably fdisk and format it.

Try "chkdsk <drive letter>:\ /f"
For example "chkdsk H:\ /f"

3 NDS, 1DSlite

Supercard CF

Devil_Spawn

you can recover the files+extension but not the names of the files. i do not think you would like to go through them testing which save is the right one

dai_uk

I've run down my battery with my cf in no probs, Minish cap is a GBA game so unless you were saving at the time it shouldn't have been accessing the CF, you can remove the CF once GBA games are loaded as they load into SC RAM (Not advisable but you can!)
