A dictionary would be most useful on the ds.

Is this an easy app to make?

Would a search function be possible?

There are dictionary cartridges in Japan and Korea. I think they don't release them in the US because people still regard the DS as a game machine only. If you look at the Japanese DS cartridges there's weird stuff like cooking tutorials and calligraphy tutorials...none of which we get here.

Perseid, would you happen to have the names of those cartridges you were talking about? I noticed alot of Japanese carts but I haven't had time to investigate them. I am learning Japanese and want to play with these carts if possible but I can't translate their names yet so I don't know which ones to try first.

I don't know Japanese either so I don't remember what they were. Sometimes I just pop in a random Japanese ROM to see what it is. Sorry. :)

I don't think that's what anybody was talking about, but wiktionary does provide dumps of it's content and a program called mwdumper for filtering and extracting bits.  That could be possible (I don't really understand the process of development so I wouldn't know), although an xml reader might be just as good, and I should add that the raw uncompressed data I just extracted is 323MB.  I don't think many would be willing to do this.

You could use this .txt dictionary I found on the Moon Books website: http://moonbooks.stonecypher.net/reference-websters

I tried it on moonshell, and it takes a while to find the word, but its the only DS dictionary that I know of. Of course, you should keep pressing the right button so that you can find the word faster than scrolling down.
njoy your life.

Cool!  Thanks for the links.  Also, instead of Moonshell, one could try putting the text files into DSLinux and using vi to search for a word...  It'd be faster than scrolling through lots of text.  And once one has the data, it probably isn't hard to write a perl script to search for a word in DSLinux, if one doesn't need a graphical interface.

There's an app called TranslatorDS. It supports Dictionary Project Data File format (wb) so you can search the Internet for lots of addidational databases.

You can find it here:
