I've just got a new R4 (one which appears to still have the soldering pads for the M3 conversion, yay! ;)), and I had to face this thing of having to turn on my DS holding select not to boot right in my SC menu, as my DS is flashed.

It's not a big problem, but anyway I've chosen to wipe away FlashMe (I can always reinstall it later on) with noflashme.nds. It worked well, and now my DS is happy and unflashed.

My question is: from what I've been reading around, people seem to be very scary about using noflashme.nds, why? Is it just a matter of losing the ability to play DS download play sent from a flashcart? Or maybe the bricking protection? Or is there something more I'm missing? I seem to remember reading about brightness levels not working anymore, but all 4 of them work.

Also, where can I find that mk4-whatever program to "run" the slot-1 from the SC menu? (I don't know if it's ok to ask this, just edit it out if it's not, sorry).

The issue is with DS Lites, as the regular version of NoFlashMe restores a DS Phat firmware, which doesn't function correctly on the DS Lite.  I know Pictochat is one of the affected portions at least.  If you've got a DS Phat, noflashme should work fine.

SukkoPera

Oh yes, mine is a DS Lite, and Pictochat doesn't work anymore.

I've found a different noflashme version which seems to be made for DSLites on http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/. Should I try it?

#  noflashme.nds (DO NOT USE ON A DS LITE. IT IS NOT SUPPORTED) <--noflashme for dsphat
# nofmlite.nds (FLASHME REMOVER FOR DS LITE) <-- noflashme for dslite
I use that site for my downloads too

Ummm also, the main reason I was scared to use it is because when you flash it, there is no fail safe after like 10%.

The wrg-nofl.zip (noflashmelite) works fine. Everything still works perfectly. Did it to all my NDSLites with no problems.

OK, I used nofmlite, and it worked like a charm. Pictochat works and everything else seems to work too.

@Pharaos: That means that if I lost contact on SL1 after 10% my DS would have bricked?

For info, here are MD5s of all the things I tested:

On more question: I borrowed a friend's flashed DS phat, and tried sending some games to my now-non-flashed DS lite and..- it ran them all! Games were sent from an R4, so I basically see 2 choices:

1. As R4 uses non-patched ROMs, the signature is intact and broadcast games can be run on any DS.
2. My DS has remnants of FlashMe which allows it to boot broken-signature code.

I'd say that 1 sounds more real... what do you think?
