What to replace my SC-CF with

Hi,

Well an accident on holiday almost wrecked my ds (original) which luckily still works, but my SC CF to the full blow and is dead as a door post, not recognised as a gba cart, not recognised as an opera ram pack etc - DEAD.

So I need to replace it, I have an SC-DS ONE but need the GBA functionality and ram pack for linux and opera.

I used to use the SC-CF on long trips in my GBA SP too!

I've been looking at the EZ ram cart as it may solve my gba problem, and providing the full size one becomes available could still work on  long trips...

but I can't see any mention of it working with the SC-DS ONE on opera here, I see there's gbaldr but that doesn't mention opera on SC-DS One, does this mean I'll need to get an R4/M3 and the card ?

any other suggestions are welcome, I've kept up to date with the slot one solutions but gba wise not so.

I do like the idea of the EZ ram cart as it offers full speed gba, but if there's a better alternative I'd be happy to hear it.

I'm trying to not spend over $100 inc. shipping to uk

Thanks in advance.

You cannot use Rudolph's 3 in 1 tool on the Supercard DS ONE, however, cory's patch for the Opera Web Browser will allow you to use the web browser with the RAM pack.  And even though no one says so, on my R4, the triforce patch for the Supercard series also works with the EZ Flash 3 in 1.  I'm not sure about linux, I never got it working because of my crappy router.

Unfortunately, rumble doesn't work very well with the Supercard DS ONE.

Thanks, I can live without the rumble, so does Corey's now discontinued GBALdr work ok with SC DS one ?

Cash is tight after holiday so if I can find someone stocking the full size cart I'll go for the EZ Flash 3 in one itself for now

You have many options with GBA:

GBALDR - Cory application, no more updates, but really polished application.  Works really well, in fact, it is my favorite.
Rudolph's 3 in 1 Tool - Pretty good because it is bundled with other features, but since you are using it for GBA only, it isn't the best GBA wise.  However, it does offer the feature of putting a GBA rom on the PSRAM which saves a lot of time.
BigBoss's Patcher - Early stages of GBA patching, really simple, you are better off with GBALDR.

I haven't seen anywhere with the full sized EZ Flash 3 in 1's in stock yet actually.  Sorry can't help you there.  :(

Everything you need, about 25 of your pounds or less, given the crappy state of the US dollar: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1893

PharaohsVizier

That isn't a full sized GBA one.  :(

Altor

Right, just read that part... hm....

You could get a EZV + 3-in-1, then do some modifications to a regular cartridge and put the 3-in-1 PCB inside it.  Probably not that adventurous though!

I'll look around a bit...

edit:

How about:
http://www.kickgaming.com/m3-perfect-sd-slim-p-57.html
or
http://www.kickgaming.com/m3-perfect-sd-slim-with-passcard-p-87.html if necessary?

Would be a good replacement, you'd get better GBA as well.  Just need to find a SD card somewhere, but they cost almost nothing now.  Total cost, about 60 pounds.

edit 2:

Should you happen to find a good deal on an M3 lite (microSD), you can get this replacement shell 25 cents: http://www.kickgaming.com/m3lite-gba-shellcase-white-p-138.html

edit 3:

Personally I'd just buy a DS Lite.  No sense investing in outdated equipment.  The Lite is really such a great improvement, the screens are so bright you can use it outside on a medium sunny day and the battery life on the lowest brightness setting (for indoors) is like 16 hours.  And the lowest setting is brighter with a wider view angle than the DS Phat's.  You'd only be spending a little bit more.  Figure:

DS Lite - 80 pounds
EZV with 3-in-1 - 20 pounds
MicroSD 5 pounds

Just wild guesses on the amounts, I'm not up to date with how much exactly the pound is worth, besides "hella lot more than a dollar".

Close, a DS Lite is £100 (equivalent to $199)

I've read fitting the EZV Lite into another case is quite tricky even though I had a dead SC-CF case!

But I found bamboogaming selling the full size one, £14 including P+P

http://www.bamboogaming.com/flash-cards/ezflash/ez-flash-v-expansion-pack-for-nds-original/prod_116.html

So I've gone for that, I'll get another micro SD when funds allow.

Thanks for the help, I've downloaded coreys gbaldr and rudolf's says it supports all DLDI so one of them should get it to work from my SC-DSONE

I think I'll get an R4 if I need to rather than buying it unnecessarily

I'll post how I get on, It'll be interesting to see if it really will work in my GBA-SP once programmed from DS :-)

Hi

Just get an SCSD. They are only $50 from RHS, plus I've gotten two SCSD's quite recently from the market place here for a mere $20/$30! You can use it on your gba, and with opera on your nds, so it suites all your needs. Plus it sticks out less than the sccf.

So, it's essenchally your busted sccf sticking out less and using SD cards.

My opinion. Though I have to admit, I'm a supercard fanboy, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut (or my fingers since I'm typing not talking)

In the end I found a full Size EZ 3 in 1, I opted for this because of the following:

I got rid of all my SD cards to get CF Cards !

SCSD has speed issues with GBA (just like all SC slot 2's) and this was a chance to get away from that.

I found some great tools by corey and help from dudu.exe as to getting it to work with my SC DSOne

I like the idea of flashing it and using it in my GBA SP :-)

and to be honest I heard the SCSD has speed issues with DS games so I'd be unable to use it for that, my saved cash will go towards some more microSD cards for my SCDS One which if I have problems with I'll replace at a later date.

There are so many options open to people now and I feel sad to loose my SC-CF (support is still good) but at the same time I can't wait to play mariokart on GBA again :-)
