Things I should know before buying a Lite

So, I'm getting a Lite for Christmas, at last.
But, there are a few things I'd like to know before getting it next week.

1. If I change the brightness level, then shut down the console, does it stick till it's powered up again or does it reset to its default level? If not, does it even work with SC miniSD?

2. What common problems does the Lite usually come with? (Dead or lazy pixels, scratches, etc?). How should I check the Lite I'm about to buy doesn't have them? I rather check that in situ than come home, find out my Lite is not working as it should and having to wait till Tuesday to change it for a good one.

3. Do I have to change my Friend Codes once I start playing my games with my Lite? I ask this because I don't have WiFi at home, I go to the same mall I'll be buying my DSL, so I'd like to change those codes there instead of having to come back again. I understand that the Nintendo WiFI Connection treats the game and the console as one, but I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance.

The brightness level stays set, it doesn't reset. And the Lite does woth with SC MiniSD, but not (I think) with SuperPass 1.

My (black) Lite had no problems, but the white one has cracks on the hinges and all colors sometimes have dead/stuck pixels.

There's an option in the WiFi settings to transfer the settings to another DS. Just go to the WiFi control panel in a WiFi game, press the big orange 'Options' button and the option is in there somewhere.

So... could anyone give me a more intensive answer on the problems a DSL might come with? I'm really worried about this stuff.
I'd love to know how can I search for dead and lazy pixels (in which screen, the most common dead pixels). My old GBA had three dead pixels, and it was a bummer. Also, I'd like to know about hardware related problems, like broken buttons or stuff like that.
Thanks in advance.

I bought a DS Lite launch day and I had no dead/bright pixels. My bottom screen is a little (unoticeable until you mention it (bastards)) yellowed. Uh, that's about it, really. Things you could come in contact with is small crack appearing in the hinge (should be fixed by now), dead pixels (I've only heard of this problem online), bottom screen slightly yellowed, shakey bottom or top screen, and weird buttons (my left trigger is a bit unresponsive(again, unoticeable until it's brought to attention)). Everyone who has owned a DS Phat tells me that this thing is lightyears better, even after hours of play so there should be nothing crippling out of the box.

look at all those parenthesis :)

dun worry about it too much, if it had real problems, u woulda read/hurd about it. y would it be selling so well if there were so many problems? i was worried at the beginning but there has not been a single issue so dun worry, just enjoy.

Well, thanks for all replies. I guess I'll buy it this weekend, and test it for dead pixels ASAP. I rather do it in situ, but even if I don't see any noticeable flaws I'll try it at home too.
Thanks again.

So... mine came with a yellowish touchscreen and a constant blue pixel in the middle of the top screen. This "flashing colors" programs don't even start for me... so, I'll change it this week *sigh*

what

yeah, dead pixels just suck especially if you get the bright crimson ones v_V

btw
I kind of find it strange that all my friends and family here in the Philippines have all bought ds/dslites (I count about 6 ds phats and 9 ds lites) have all bought ds lites and not one has encountered a couple a single dead pixel but when I bought one in the states for my cousin it had a couple of dead  crimson pixels, exchanged it asap O_o. In fact, anyone here from the ph ever gotten a dead pixel on their locally bought ds?

I bought my DS Lite (U.S.) a month or two ago and it came with a dead pixel...i think I'll wait a few months before i have Nintendo fix it.  Its only 1 and i want to play my DS right now.  I believe the warranty is 1 year correct?

Yeah yung una kong binili na DSLite Onyx  may red stuck pixel. Exchanged it the day after. The chinky eyed manager of the shop na may malakeng dede replaced it. And I think they resold the one with a stuck pixel to a kid who had no idea. rofl :) Intsik nga naman..

I'll take my SC+SuperKey to my local GAME store, so I can use the LCD Tester in situ. But, before I start thinking on how will I'll pull out a semi-illegal ROM using device in the middle of one of Europe's biggest gaming stores (lol), tell me, what happens if I use a brand new DSL with a SuperKey inserted? Will it prompt me to configure it (date, time, nickname and color scheme) or will it go directly to SC's menu? I don't want to start opening DSL boxes, configuring them (even with a quick "startstartstartstart") and then returning them...

Just bought a black NDSL 4 days ago (27th). Flashed it as soon as I got home, absolutely no issues. I'm not sure if this was there on the phase 1 NDSLs, but there's even a plastic divider that seperates the SL1 contact from the screw.

Still using my supercard SD until my Supercard lite gets here :)

Hope that helps.

I went through many NDSLs on UK launch week... the first (black) had a dead pixel, the next (from nintendo repairs, also black) had a stuck pink pixel right in the middle of the screen... took that to the shop and got another black one, but the d-pad didn't work...

eventually got a white one instead. no dead pixels but the hinge crack appeared out of nowhere.

if you take your ds lite apart, then put it back together again, you might notice the screens will strobe. kind of like your tv screen where the horizontal lines appear to move.

the effect of this that solid colours look striped. usable, but may annoy you
