a suggestion to counter the effect of "brick" roms

I have a suggestion.

Maybe we can have a sticky post somewhere to list the sort of roms somebody have used successfully and their checksum of the rom. This should help to prevent "Trojan" roms.

So that if we ever want to patch the same rom and the same dump we can verify the checksum against one that somebody already did before and was sure its not a brick maker.

What do you guys think?

Great idea.  Someone trustworthy should post md5s.

that's where i see the problem.  who, really, can be trusted??

isnt anyone doing a listing tool like GBARenamer? if so wouldnt that do the job?

[Jez]

in fact Advanscene already has a .dat list of NDS releases for offline list

so far, here are who's been nominated...

dudu.exe
romman (well, if you could get them to do it, great.  but not likely)

nominate some more...how 'bout we get a list going and then i guess we could figure it out from there.

Thats why it has to be a community maintained list.

So if you have a rom from a trusted source but the MD5 differs, practice caution, and warn the rest!

I guess if the NDS emulators are working we wouldn't have to go thru this and risk making bricks...

zarcon6 would be my first choice as he is listed as the Compatibility Tester
Also I belive NTolerance would be trustworthy

No really need for that (and no need to flash it with the "flashme").

Just take your roms in a trusted place, like somes very old roms channels (like gbatemp on efnet).

And for the homebrew, personnally, I only trusted and so used, ScummDS, and Loopy/Flubba/Gladius' one (SnesDS/Goomba/PocketNES/SPC) etc... (and the ndspatcher, which will become useless anyway with the new firmware, if somes roms don't save after, just use a real card).

(And don't take roms from GST, anyway they don't seem to rlz somes lately, and the only ones they released sucked anyway, cuz of the encryption...)

But if can make you feel better here's some CRC (made with quicksfv, the CRC is the CRC of the .nds file, so the rom, not of the .zip file) of somes roms working well (the ones I have anyway so 25 games) :

0108 Fifa 2006 (E)(Legacy) => DCA2BFEA
0122 Trauma Center Under The Knife (U)(Legacy) => 0622460A

P.S: Again, these are the CRC of the .nds file (clean, and not patched with NDSpatcher nor Super Card), not of the zip file.

Edit: Anyway, a new topic seems pretty useless, just ask Dudu.exe to put the CRC on the Compatibility List, like the names are in green, CRC can be put in red and here we go. And with each new rom on the list, just have to put the CRC with it, and there it'll be ok, but it's just a point of view for people who wants CRC (even it's seems useless to me).

This site here: http://www.64scener.com/ includes an apology from DickFader and instructions on how to scan a ROM for the DS.Bricker signature.  Ihave downloaded it and used the command given but I get no output - anybody else tried this?  Have you got it working?  How?

Thanks!  :D
