SCDS and ROMs question.......

OK, I know that the SCDS can take "clean ROMs" and run them....

But can you patch the ROMs before dropping them into an SCDS anyway?

As strange as it sounds, I'd rather do that.  Just keeps things more organized for me.

Seems I read somewhere that some games run better through the SCDS if they are pre-patched.....but I may be confusing what I read with some other slot 1 card.

I don't have an SCDS yet (RHS is still out of them), but I plan to get one as soon as they are restocked.  This is why I'm asking.

So...they can be ran patched OR unpatched through the SCDS, right?
Current setup:
Onyx DSlite/R4DS/SCminiSD
2gig Transcend card for the SCminiSD
2gig Kingston for the R4DS
4 gigglingbytes of games/apps! WOOT!

Yes you can prepatch them with the scds1 patching software available at supercard DS1 downloads.

They call it super mode. You can also patch clean roms on the scds1 in the menu of the scds1 as well.

Man!  I want an SCDSone so bad...then I could just figure this stuff out myself instead of asking multitudes of questions.

Hmm...so running "clean roms" is just a convenience.....

Good.  I'll run them pre-patched to avoid complaints of slowdowns in games that I've read about when running them "clean".

So.....standard mode is for "clean roms" and Super Mode is for patched roms? Or is it the other way around?

in a nutshell, yes. At least that is what supercard is "calling" it.

There's a couple distinct advantages when using the PC patcher:

1.  Possible speed increases
2.  The PC patcher software will create SAV files with the same names as the ROMs that you're patching.  If you put clean ROMs on the SCDS you'll end up with DOS 8.3-style filenames such as DONKEY~!.SAV.

If you do this be sure to disable the built-in SCDS patching on the menu.  If you don't you'll end up with performance and lockup problems.
