I'm about to stab myself out of frustration!

Have any of you guys successfully flashed a TS-H943 (ms28 firmware) xbox360 drive using your onboard SATA controller?

I really don't wanna have to buy a PCI sata controller, but it looks like that might be my only option.. even though i'm using xtreme bootmaker 3.6, I can't seem to use my onboard SATA to detect my samsung xbox360 dvd drive.

I am worried that mine might be a new revision, as the most recent hardware revision in any tutorial/explanation i've read (by DjoeN, if you remember him) was H/W version 006 of my drive.  Mine says H/W: 007.

i hope its not some new protection...

any thoughts?

have you looked into the www.team-xecuter.com products? X 360USB or whatever it is called. they have new products that are very nice looking and appear to work. I have used their chips for the xbox and they are great.

also the blaster 360 lets you go to pc or game with ease to flashing without opening case every time

Sneef, i also am interested in finding out more about modding xbox, later i will send you a pm with questions that are not apropriate here.

Sneef I have a Hitcahi so I wont be much help with the software since Sammy drives use diffrent methods, but I have a Xeno Conectivity Kit I use to flash my dvd-drive and you can borrow it (just make sure you send it back when your done, lol). PM me you want to borrow. It makes it where you dont need a specific sata card and put the drive in write mode.

Yeah, the xeno kit is a godsend. Doing it through onboard sata is fiddly, takes around 20 attempts and seriously makes you shy to future updates of said xtreme firmware.

It also allows you to access the files on your 20gb hdd which I guess is pretty neat.

sneef

that xeno kit would be awesome.. but what I understood was that the samsung drive cannot be flashed within windows.. it must be done in DOS with mtkflash (or via sam360, which still uses mtkflash).

so the question would be whether xeno connectivity kit is recognized in DOS..

[edit] from what I've just read on xbox-scene, the connectivity kit only works for hitachi drives   ... i was all pumped up thinking i could borrow your kit and flash my drive.. heh.. anyway, i'm just hoping the VIA SATA controller I ordered on newegg does the trick [/edit]

kyus

no sneef, that connectivity kit is the usb kit by team xecuter.

the xeno kit merely makes things easier and more recognisable when flashing.

I don't think you understand.... I have a TS drive, and the IDENTICAL xeno hardware. They work together beautifully.

sneef

oh i was just quoting someone on xbox-scene who replied to a guy saying "no, xeno 360 connectivity kit is only for hitachi drives".

heh.. i just assumed he was right since i'm a 360 noob.  just picked it up two days ago.

So, how does the xeno kit work?

sneef

well, i finally got it to work.. used a motherboard with via 8237 chipset, and did the badflash method.

worked.

i burned lord of the rings battle for middle earth on a dual layer dvd+r (verbatim) on my pioneer dvr 110D, and it worked!

only thing is that it is jerky. a little in the game, but a LOT during FMV.  sounds like the DVD-ROM is going nuts too..

using xtreme firmware 5.1a

any ideas what the jerkyness is from?

i have no idea if the image is good.  I didnt create it.  I am just testing with it to make sure my firmware flash went ok.

[edit] made backups of two of my originals (tony hawk project 8 and enchanted arms) and they work 100% perfectly!  in fact, tony hawk runs better from my backup. haha.   I think it's because the original was used, and a little scratched.. i extracted the data slowly, so less likely to have errors than during gameplay when the 360 dvd drive is spinning up really fast.  the backups work beautifully.  very pleased.  xtreme firmware 5.1 is the best!  I also found that 5.1d works best for me.  the "slow read mode" makes less noise, and runs fine [/edit]

I have flashed my ms28 drive. But i did it the easy way. Just bought a very cheap pci SATA VIA card. like 20 USD.

Worked like a charm on the first try.

I use cloneCD for my 360 games.  I used schtromextract (not sure of the spelling) to rip the originals (with a kreon-firmware samsung dvd-rom.  i used to use the 360 drive, but got tired of it being half-opened all the time)

made-in-singapore verbatim dual-layers for the games.
