Look for the download March 25 at 23:00 GMT+1

For those who don't know. Gnirfleo is the first functional homebrew DS browser (aside from DSorganize's text based one).

Here is the main page: http://gnirfleo.blogspot.com/

You can't really just write off DSOrganize's one, because I would consider it very functional (it connects to Wifi, it downloads the page, interprets the HTML, displays the result).  If you want to be technical, Gnirfleo is actually the fourth one.  First was Retawq in DSLinux, then Links in DSLinux, then DSOrganize.  I can understand writing off the first two since they were just ports of already-existing browsers for Linux, but DSO has the distinction of having written the first non-ported homebrew web browser.

Of course, of the currently existing ones, Retawq and Links are the most functional, and they're the ones I'll use if I'm not using Opera.  If Gnirfleo is actually real, I might consider switching, but until something tangible is actually produced, I'll stick with DSLinux.  I mean seriously, how can you develop a web browser for months and "forget" to release it on the promised date?

Shinster

LOL forgot about the release date. Now that's a new one.

Guys, sorry but I can't keep this longer... this project is fake, you'll have figured it by this moment, sorry to disappoint you but things didn't come back as they were supossed to.

Found in the comments, this is his real user name, his user name links back to his blog... unless some sort of hackery is used here. It wasn't a guest post, a full fledged post by Gnirfleo using his blog's username linking to his blog.

Move along, nothing to see here.

yumms

From Gnirfleo's blog...
QuoteSorry for being here guys, I promised not to, but I must tell you that the release date has been changed to april 1st. Sorry, but some last minute (and very big) bugs appeared. Please be patient.

I'm betting on this thing being fake.

Hadez

Quote from: "yumms"april 1st.

the best date for...

dantheman

Those are fake comments by the way, and yes some sort of hackery is involved.  I wouldn't be surprised if the project doesn't exist, but I'm pretty sure he would post an actual entry on the blog rather than a comment, especially considering that on his blog he said "From now on, I won't comment on the comments anymore"

vitius

i still have hope but I wouldn't be surprised if it was fake or its possible that its real just all the comments pissed him off and hes not releasing it now.

kkan

DO NOT DOWNLOAD the so called BETA in that blog ..... further down there are reports of DS BRICKER in a RAPIDSHARE LINK  :(:(:(

BE WARNED!

Nobody would work for months on a web browser for the DS then "forget" to post it on the alpha release date, then get whiny and say that he'll send it to a couple trusted people first, and release on April 1st (yeah, nice date).

It couldn't possibly be real at this point.  And anyway, how easy is it for one guy to create a web browser on a fairly undocumented piece of hardware like the DS?  I wanted to believe, but I've totally given up at this point.  Okiwi is the same way...the alpha is just a graphic that looks like a browser, is it any surprise that it doesn't actually load any html pages?

vitius

yeah looks like this ones a definite fake. I was hoping but I guess it was just too good (?) to be true.

robo

Shame about this one. How is Okiwi going?

Edit: Seems to be going well. Judging from the alpha, it's going to be very functional.
