This game appears to lock up after entering the pet's name ... I tried with NO RESET and get the same issue.  

I haven't tried it untrimmed yet.

Anyone have this successfully working?

It may be a bad dump.

I got the samething with Custom Robo Arena. The game wouldn't load after I entered my name. So I deleted it, and got it from somewhere else, and it fired right up.

So try it from a different site first.

Which release did you use?  I've tried two now, both hang right after entering the pet's name.

I tried out 0956 - Best Friends - Dogs & Cats (E)(Legacy) on my newly bought R4 and it worked great (although great isn't something you might call the game).

well.. try it untrimmed - there might be overtrimming...

but maybe another rom?.. blah
