You are correct all you need is any of the slot 1 cards and a fast micro sd card.. They all have pretty much the same functionality are compatible with all ds and dsl.. fanboys will suggest r4 over sc1 but r4 also requires fast micro sd for castlevania... I would suggest cheapest for you prolly the r4 with 1gb japanese kingston (recommended card) for about $45 from deal extreme but takes 2-3 weeks for delivery.  personally i have ds 1 from first batch in december and cant fault it... a bit low on compatibilty when first released but ironed out now but you MUST use a fast card for best results. You can use clean roms on either... No slot 1's can play gba games and have never bothered with homebrew/emulation so unable to answer re snes roms.

I have never had an issue.... even with the latest games they play they save.. as for which is better thats not an answer I am qualified to give... they both do what it  says on the tin... r4 defaults to the largest saver size for all games or so i am lead to believe.. sc1 apparently you need to manually select.. i never have and my saves work... i have an r4 on the way so i can make direct comparisons, but i cannot envisage changing from my sc1 long term.. will flog the one i like least after have tried both... only ordered the r4 as it cost me £15.99... it was £39.99 for my sc1 in dec.. horses for courses as they say..

http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.143  $30.68 = £15.99 at least it did a couple of days ago... the yersion that is $44.25 includes a japanese kingston 1gb micro sd.. since i already have a couple, didnt bother with another... like i mentioned delivery is 2-3 weeks from above site

Regarding 5 and 6:

5.  No, no standalone slot-1 card can run GBA binaries due to the different ways in which the two slots are addressed.  However, the EZ-V combo comes with a slot-2 expansion slot that fits in a DS Lite that lets you have GBA compatibility.  You store the files on the microSD card you put in slot-1, and then in the EZ-V menu you write the .gba file to the slot-2 card before booting it.

6.  SNES games will run with either SNES DS (antique, not really recommended) or SNEmulDS (recent, good emulation, recommended).  Check one of my recent posts for a huge explanation on how to set up both of these emulators.
