My DS shock shell review

I got my a while a go and here is my review.

I ordered 2 shock shells, black and clear.
The clear looked awesome but the black, you could see where the plastic was formed on the other side.  My clear had a problem with the R button getting stuck sometime.  I was fine with that, it didn't bother me that much. It looks realy cool with leds.

But then about 1 month of using it the hinge cracked on the right side of my clear one.  So I opened it up again and glued it to the hinge so it would work like normal.

Then right after that my black one cracked and the whole piece fell off.

I do use my ds lite quite often but I am very careful with it and have never dropped it before.  I was actually fine with the hinges cracked like they were because it would work almost like normal.
But just about 1 week ago I opened my clear DS lite and the hinge cracked in the exact same spot that Nintendo's does. ( I would know because I have 5 DS lite with cracked hinges)

Now my DS is not even playable because I don't want to risk breaking my ribbon to the top screen.
Its a good idea to make the replacement cases but from what I experienced they break easier than Nintendo's and I will bet that every single one of the shock hinges will crack eventually.
I was planing on buying a arctic blue shock shell but since this happened I don't think I will unless extreme enterprises fixes this problem.

Funny you mention that... the hole the bar of metal goes into was completely filled with plastic on mine. I ended up doing the best I could and sticking a screw driver in there and spinning until I got most of it out. The button works, but sticks. I'd love to take it back apart and use a drill bit like I should have done in the first place but I seem to have stripped a few screws... Oh well.

And I had problems with the side, too. I can't seem to get it just right... it's either too tight or too loose, so I decided to leave it at too loose, afraid I'd crack the side.
 like cream soda...

my clear shock case hinge cracked and i stripped the screws to boot. same story. i was also missing parts which they were quick to replace but its too late now seeing as how i'd need a new set of screws and another two replacement parts for the broken hinge. i'm pretty sure the people who make the shells replace broken or missing parts but i've had it up to here with these 3rd party shells.

Altor

That sucks.  I was really considering buying one of these.  What would be really cool is if you could get ones that are all aluminum or something, something (relatively) strong and unlikely to crack.  Not only would it look flashy, but it would probably be lighter and less easily damaged.

Lemoe

Hi,
I am considering buying one of these (even with the hinge probs) but i was just wondering, are there any alternative replacement shells?

Thanks,
lemoe.
