Is normal save supposed to work with GBA?

I have SCSD and SCCF. While NDS games save OK, I've always found that GBA games that 'save' always lose their settings. The only way I've been able to save is using the Realtime save funciton that dumps the current state of RAM. Is there any way to make normal saves work?

I think this is how it works, it's been awhile.

two different save ways
L R select and A   <-- I think in game save
L  R select and B  <-- I think is save state

one is like a save state, and the other is explained below

save how you would in the actual game and then press the non-savestate way to save.  I think L R select and A
and then save.
well anyways you have to save in the game and then back it up onto card.

post back if that's it

the best way to save is to cancel all settings except for the top save one, and then when you want to save, save ingame, then turn of the ds.
quickly boot the ds back up (fast as possible) into gba mode (doesnt work in nds mode)
then press right to the top shows saver, find the correct save, then press a twice

I'd like to add that when I use the SCSD in my GBMicro, the games do save and load correctly without any additional messing around.

To save a normal save for GBA on a Supercard:

Save your game in the game. This puts your save in SRAM.

Then press L+R+SEL+A and choose Save. This takes the save from SRAM and saves it to your card.

All done.

Thanks everybody for the replies, especial analogman who's answer spelled it out clearly.

I realised that when I mistakenly thought it was working on the GBA, it was because the sram lasts 20-30 seconds so if you turn off and on again quickly your save will be there but leave it too long and it will be lost unless you do L/R/Select/A + Save
