i dont really know if the supercard DS can see files from Supercard SD... perhaps someone else can inform you on it...

but for the Slot1 - for less pains and issues, the R4 is suggested for NEWBS... not to mention that it saves directly to the microSD whereas the Supercard DS ONE writes it upon reboot.

I believe both are able to act as Passme's to your Supercard SD.

Also, R4 currently has a cheat function. Supercard DS maybe? but its not out as of yet, and firmware updates have been pretty low.

My opinion can't go too far since I haven't had the chance to try the SCDS yet. But I do hear a lot of complaints about the cart. But again, I don't personally know of the complaints that have been stated.

Anyways, I do have the R4, and it is a very good cart. Just like with the SCDS, or any of the other external storage slot 1's, you really need to get yourself a quick microsd card, so you don't have any lock ups with those couple problem games.

It is a very easy cart to use though. You literally just drag the clean roms onto the microsd, and your done. And the files write very quickly with the included writer. It's also cool that you can hold twelve different skins on the cart, and change the current skin to whatever one you want, just by pushing Select at the menu screen.

And I just started messing with the new cheat function today. I usually don't ever use cheats, but there's some pretty useful ones included. Like pressing L+R on FFIII and you can save anywhere. So the cheat function is a very cool new function just implemented.

It's just an all around great cart. I would definitely recommend it. Ever since I got a Japanese Kingston microsd, every single game I've thrown on it has ran flawlessly, at full speed. Before I had just a regular Sandisk, and a Taiwan Kingston, and PoR would always lockup at the portals. The lock ups did get less frequent after I set the Cluster on the microsd though. Do a little research and check out some reviews on both carts. PharaohsVizier  has reviews on both carts on his site. So I would check those out. They're pretty informative.

May I recommend my Slot 1 review?  It doesn't include the Supercard offering, but might help you make a good decision.

I would recommend a look at my R4 FAQ too:

Good luck - I love my R4.

Basically, I'd recommend the R4 for someone that is new to the scene, however, if you want GBA, rumble, the web browser, EZV is a good option to look into.
