I was at the EB games website, and found out something about the DS browser
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802637
Will it support flash + java, because the description says so?

DeVS

Ya thats the Opera browser that has been out in Japan and Europe forever and is now coming out in the States.

The "flash support" is a flat-out lie, though they're right in that basic Javascript is supported, but not Java itself.

yeah can confirm owning the OPERA/DS BROWSER retail that it doesnt support flash and does not support downloads and does not even have sound  :(

its more of a GIMMICK than any real use for a browser its ok for a quick surf and check webmail but thats about it really :(

I thought it wasn't a lie.  The Europe and Japan won't support it, but apparently they made it work on the american version...  Where did you guys get the info about the lie?

It WOULD explain the long delay...

I thought the website was for ordering the current version, not preordering the next one.  However, I'm still highly doubtful that the DS can handle flash movies.  Think of how long it takes to display a single JPEG file.  Going by that standard, Flash files would take a looong time to render, and that's assuming there's enough RAM to work with in the first place.  Perhaps a very basic form of Flash 7 could be implemented, but nothing major.

Good point about the jpegs.

Hi

keep in mind, the HB community has already gotten flash to work, though not very well. If we can impliment a bad version of flash, They really SHOULD be able to impliment an atleast okay version, if simple version, of flash, considering that they have official developing tools and big companies of people to work with.

What I'm hearing is that Flash support will be limited to older versions of Flash.   Most likely, if Flash is even actually going to be supported at all, it will be just useful enough to show you ads in webpages.  I highly doubt Youtube will work since there is no sound in the DS browser, rendering most YT vids useless anyway.

Ad support is all that Flash in the DS will be for.  There may be some old Flash stuff that you'll be able to access, but mosty just the stinkin' ads.

To me, that means the Euro and Jap versions are better.....they know where they can stick their advertisements.

I have the Euro version and it doesn't support Flash at all.  No sound either other than sounds when you click a link and stuff like that. Javascript is supported in it, but not full Java.
Current setup:
Onyx DSlite/R4DS/SCminiSD
2gig Transcend card for the SCminiSD
2gig Kingston for the R4DS
4 gigglingbytes of games/apps! WOOT!

Surely flash would only make it slower, I seriously doubt they'll add it

On my old computer, which was an AthlonXP 1500+ I had problems watching homestarrunner.com in fullscreen. It would drop frames. Flash is terrible when it comes to CPU usage and I don't see the DS handling it, not even for ads.

the only thing a flash suport whould be useful is for simples flash buttons.. nothing more..
