Question on GC compatibility with Wiikey

I have not seen a lot of resources on this so I'm hoping somebody here can help me.

I'm wondering how good does Wiikey handle GC backups.  I've read somewhere that Wave Race is a no-no and I have a backup of PN 03 PAL that does not seem to work boot up.  I read in a chinese forum that PN 03 PAL and USA fails on Wiikey.

Is that true?  Are there more games that are not compatible?

There are only about 5 GC games that don't work. They are the ones that use audiostreaming. I know Wave Race and Eternal Darkness are two of them but can't think of the others. The games will boot, but the audio will be a loud scratchy sound.

That's strange.

I've had 2 GC back ups here that don't even boot up.  Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition disc and P.N. 03.  Maybe it's a bad iso dump... if you're telling me Wiikey should be able to recognize the disc.

I've noticed that the streaming audio games crash randomly. I can only play Ikaruga for about 5 seconds and Mario Baseball about 10 minutes before they both crash. I've seen a partial list and I unfortunately don't remember where. It is about 20-30 games and I THINK the Zelda collector disc is one of them. I don't think PN03 is.

You should check to make sure you're not trying to play games cross-region. If the game goes green on boot in my experience it means I'm trying to play a PAL game on my NTSC system.

I know what you mean, but the Wii can't even recognize the disc as a game in the first place, so it's not a 50 vs 60 Hz thing.

Are you using GCOS? It's a bootloader than allows you to put multiple games on a disc, lets you attempt to force a region, etc. I have discs with 6-8 working games on one DVD-R.

As for the games that don't work: Are you sure the images you're burning aren't bad? Are there scratches, spots or rings on the discs? Are they from a foreign region and you have Force Region turned off?

anton

GCOS?  What's that?

I've heard something nifty that allows you to slam GC games into one DVD.  Haven't tried it, and I'm not sure if I can.

In all honesty, I don't know how to test the images, so I burn and cross my fingers.  P.N. 03 I have is from PAL, but I've managed to run V-Rally 3 (Pal) on my NTSC Wii, so I presume Region restrictions are turned off.

The media I use is DVD+RW, don't remember the kind of disc.  This DVD rewritable is the same one I use to burn and test images (it's the only way I know how to test images, burn and cross fingers).  I've managed to burn V-Rally 3 (PAL), WWE Day of Reckoning (NTSC), Godfather BH Edition (NTSC), SSX Blur (NTSC), etc. on it.  The last one I managed to burn was SSX and that worked fine (immediately before trying out P.N. 03).  The disc does have some bit of marks and scratches though, I presume... I think there's a clear mark where burnt GC games stop writing on a full size DVD.

I hope to put in info on what ImgBurn says about my DVD+RW.

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=53005 is a link to GCOS. You should also google for FSTFIX.

The DVD+RW may well be the problem. The Wii prefers -Rs. Try a good -R and see if the problem goes away.

What's the FSTFIX?  My P.N. 03 image has FSTFIX of which I have no idea what it is.

And by the way, I burnt all those games into the DVD+RW and they all work okay.  So, I'm not sure what to think of about this problem...

You're sure it's a RW problem?

This is what ImgBurn tells me.

Just wondering if I can use GCOS on my PN 03 image to get it to boot.  Is that something possible?

DAMN!  Just slapped PN 03 on GCOS and it's working.  But I do think the problem stems from the DVD+RW.  I had another burn and that did not work.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the help!!!
