Castlevania: PoR freezing

The R4 only has 100% compatibility when using a fast enough microSD card.  While the brand is important, the most important fact is that it needs to be made in Japan and not Taiwan for it to be fast enough.  If they didn't specify, then you can't really say that they sold you something you didn't want.

DeVS

I think it's shady. They know that card is crap for that device and that no one would want it. I would start off with a nice polite email and see if you can get it resolved, if not I would start moving boots into asses.

And it's odd you got 1 type of memory card with a different type of memory adapter. Were they in one package or did they come in separate packages?

It came in one of those little plastic casings. It was actually inside the R4 box though. Not like a brand new one. IN the box. They obviously put it in.

I would atleast prefer it if they gave me like a Sandisk which could easily be sold on Ebay for money for a good Japanese made SD card. DeVS, what do you think of part of the email I posted before?

I don't think it matters. When they added the ( 4-5 different type of microSD brand list) they meant that you'll randomly receive the cheapest memory card they have in stock.

But they don't have Transcend as one of the offered brands..

I understand your perspective, the problem is I don't think the company is going to give a hoot. Your fighting a battle with a slim chance of winning.

It isn't like I am sueing them here. It's just a memory card, but why would they give two different memory card accessories with different makes. It just doesn't make sense, like DeVS said. Would it hurt them to replace it for me?

The customer service was great for me too. It's a shame. They had an MSN contact, and they answered all of my questions with out hassle.

And also, does the card manufacturer matter if it's still in made in Japan, or does it have to be a Kingston?

I've had this problem, and changed to EUR rom. Now I don't have this problem. It would work in your case either...

Enjoy your trip.

Just got back from my trip. Well, it works, with ALOT of freezing, mostly in the teleport rooms. Will have to sort out my memory card after, as I just got to the final boss, and I luckily broke my DS somehow.

Yeah, we've established that it is my poo memory card. I'm gonna ask the retailer to replace it with one of those brands, because Transcend is not even listed, but I got one anyway. If they give me a new Kingston, or Toshiba, and it works with no problems, then I won't sell it for a Japan made Kingston.

Where are your memory cards made? And what do you mean about the MicroSD speed list? I don't understand.

So I just finished having a conversation with the customer service of Gadget-Asia on MSN:

www.gadget-asia.com says:

Grosho says:

Grosho says:
From what we've experienced and from what we've read, the R4 really is 100% compatible with all DS ROMs.
Grosho says:
and the game that isn't working for me (castlevnia: portrait of ruin), they say it works fine
Grosho says:
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
- PASS: Plays and saves fine. Intro plays at full speed.
www.gadget-asia.com says:
we will not comment on ROMs, if the card is faulty it won't load games
Grosho says:
so why isn't it running all games?
Grosho says:
my friend has and r4 just like me, but he has a kingston micro SD
Grosho says:
yet he can run the game flawlessly[/spoiler]

After I said that, he went offline. I might ring them later. If it doesn't work out, I will just sell the card on ebay, and buy a better one.

What are your thoughts on that?

kkan

from my point of view they are entitled to supply an alternative if they are out of stock and you are within your rights for a complete exchange if not satisfied but makes it harder as they are a web company thats not In the uk ... no doubt their selling laws are a little different to ours as far as legal standing goes :(

did you specify what specific card you wanted !?  If not you dont have a leg to stand on they can and have sent you whats described in the order 1gb mem card regardless of what brand they complied with that order  :)

Thats a big issue with buying via distance selling you dont know 100% everything you are getting unless its down in black and white in big bold lettering :(

I'll just sell the card on Ebay, and buy a new sandisk from PLAY. Thanks for the help!

kms

for your info, the sandisk wil also give you the same results, why don't you just listen to what ppl have said on the forum, Toshiba, kingston, PNY, eagletec, all must be made in japan.
