This thread is pretty pointless, but I'm basically looking to see if anyone knows the type of fanboy I'm about to describe.

This dude has a 360 and Wii, a PS3 and a Wii, or maybe he has all three consoles.  Definitely a "hardcore" gamer.  For whatever reason he's down on the Wii even though he owns one.  Somehow he has time to play all portable/console/PC AAA titles as soon as they're released.  Beat Zelda within a few days of the Wii's release.  Didn't play Excite Truck because it didn't get a 9.5 in the reviews.  Didn't play RE4 Wii because he played the PS2 version years ago.  He's already beaten Metroid Prime 3 and was underwhelmed by it.  The controls were "meh", the game was "nothing special", and he's bored with his Wii.

Again, pointless thread.  I've just observed this in a few forums and it's quite surprising to me.  Why would you buy a Wii if you're so "hardcore"?  How the hell do you have so much time to play nearly every game that gets released?

lol, the dude reminds me of the World of Warcraft player from southpark.

i don't think he's alone though, if you go onto xbox live you'll always see a bunch of people who have impossible lap records or stupid amount of achievement points on scoreboards.

my most treasured memories on previous nintendo consoles were playing with friends, multiplayer. if he's dissing the wii, that's because he doesn't strike me as the type who'll have a bunch of mates over to play :)

sonicwind

all you have to look at is that geometry wars high score list :P that thing is just..........something.

It's not just one dude, I've seen lots of people like this.

I'm not saying DeVS is like dude, but I'm pretty sure he owns a 360, Wii, and a PS3. I think that's pretty cool.

Perseid

I find time to play a lot of the titles released but that doesn't mean I have time to play them very far. :) I own a 360 and a Wii. PS3 isn't worth the money. I am kind of down on the Wii, though. I thought the new controller would bring all sorts of cool innovative stuff to video games and while it is happening it's not happening enough.

That said I don't think I've ever met anyone exactly like the posted example. Most of the people I know are heavy into games but manage to do something else with their time too.

There's nothing wrong with owning all 3 systems.  I will eventually get one of the "others" myself.

I think my deep rooted hatred for MS is keeping me from buying the 360.  I almost bought it like 3 times, but can't do it.  I really want a PS3 still for whatever reason... I like the openness of it.  Like, installing another OS is an official feature... and that freaking rules.

OH YEAH...

I started the post to talk about the Wii... I'm kind of down on the Wii, too.  I'm afraid it's just not going to be capable to hold up to the "graphical standards" of the other 2.  I mean, we know that's obvious, but it's going to seriously hold the system back.  I know i know, i even agree that gameplay is very important, but I'm still somewhat disappointed by the Wii controls, at least the way they've been executed so far.  Don't get me wrong, there is still a TON of potential.  It's just very young.  I just honestly don't see any "must have" games for it yet.  Friendcodes have to go, and the whole "kid friendly" attitude has to be loosened a bit.

Devil_Spawn

do you have a ds?
do you care about the ds's graphics?
:P

Well I have all 3 systems so I can judge each because I have actually USED all 3. I hate people who talk $hit on any of the 3 systems when they haven't even played that system. People who talk  $hit on the 360, PS3 or Wii who don't own one or have never even picked up a controller for that system have little room to even speak. I agree with NT that games should not be judged on reviews of game magazines because they PAY their employers to do reviews.

Im not sure what type of "fanboy" NT is talking about though. You mention someone who owns all 3 consoles and likes some games and not others, lol. A fanboy would be someone who ONLY owned a Nintendo and only played Mario FTW!!!!!!! Not someone who owns all the consoles and plays a variety of games and then make an opinion of what games they like or dislike.

And if anyone cares: Wii>360>PS3

Yeah, third party developers can't seem to make the Wiimote work right.  It's frustrating.  Look at this shit:

That's coming from Rockstar, a developer that's generally known for quality.  So I agree with your point, but on the other hand, these fanboys don't even give the Wii credit for when it gets something right.

Also, friend codes are not mandatory for Wii games, apparently it's up to the developer as to whether they are used or not:

I still consider them fanboys if they own the console but still talk nothing but shit about it.  Either way, I'm sorry for this thread.  It sucks.

I guess what this all comes down to is that I don't like the new world order of "hardcore" game consoles.  I was doing all this stuff on my PC 10 years ago, so the 360 and PS3 just don't seem that innovative to me.  In fact they are a step back in a lot of ways.
