What does the 1.63 firmware do?

First off, its being discussed now at gbatemp (and prolly elsewhere) that the firmware upgrade will not work with Supercards that use a chip beginning with CB. Only the ones that start with "MX" can upgrade to 1.63 successfully. see pic.

I'm just curious if anyone can actually tell me what this firmware does? THe new software fixed the patching for Starfox, yeah. But what does the firmware upgrade change?

You need the new firmware to run the roms patched with the new software. You can check out the official site for a full list of fixes, but the big news is that it fixes starfox and the other, less popular roms that had similar problems.

But check your card first! I ran this before the outcry, and bricked it myself.

Do Supercard microSDs use the MX or the CB?  How about CFs?

Can I just open up my cart and find out or would that damage it permanently?  Is there a way to detect it using some kind of homebrew?

my CF worked fine when upgrading (but boy was I scared when I hit "start")

Romman has fixed the problem with CB chips.
Great new as I have a CB version and waiting is hell.
