CF card problems, no more space when only half full?

Hi I've been lurking here for a while, but now I'm experiencing my own issue that I haven't seen mentioned here.

I have the CF Supercard, and I bought a 1GB PNY card for it.  It's been working great.  I have 480 MB of games and mp3s and stuff on it, and now it's not allowing me to add anything else.  Windows gives me some weird error, so I tried copying the files via my Linux box and it said that the target drive was out of disk space.  Back in Windows I moved all the files back onto my hard drive, reformated the card using the Howto on this site, moved them back, and still can't add any files.  Any ideas?  Shouldn't I be able to add more to this card...it's only half full at this point.  Windows even shows that it has 518 MB of free space.

I've experienced a similar problem with my 2G SD.  The problem went away after I reformatted the flash with Win XP.  Format it as FAT.  If it still doesn't work in windows, there is a slight possibility that you have a bad CF. Many CFs and SDs have a lifetime warranty.

Use subdirectories (subfolders.) FAT has a limitation on the number of files in the root directory, and long filenames reduce that further. Subfolders will let you use your full capacity.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

Looks like building subdirectories tool care of the problem.  Thanks!
