Problems playing converted videos with filmplay

Welp, I've tried countless different methods and still can not get videos to play properly on my GBA.  When they play at all they come out all garbled, at least the video does.  The sound is fine, but I see a colorful blob that kind of resembles what I'm supposed to see.

1) I've tried various Media Conversion software versions.
2) I've tried various FilePlay.bin /.gba versions. (v.13 & v1.5)
3) I've tried various Firmwares on my Supercard. (filmplay won't even start unless I roll back to v1.41)
4) I've tried various Source file formats (wmv, divx avi, mpg, etc).

At one point, I did get a video to play when I first got my SC a few months back (April) but havnt tried again until recently.

Anyone have any ideas?  Could it be my CF card?  I for some reason don't think that could be the problem if the file is playing at all...

TIA,
Greg

It could be the CF card read speed or something.  The video file does stream off the CF card.  I had a 256 meg card that was playing videos perfectly.  Playing those same videos off a 512 meg card I recently bought they don't play as smooth.  There's some hiccups and glitches in the video.

The same thing happens to me on videos that are pre converted. I donwloaded some movies from a website that I wont mention because it is against the rules but when I try to play them I see the same colorfull blobs that you described and my sound works too. If I convert a video myself using the latest software I have no problems. I think it might have something to do with the version of the codecs the program uses to encode the videos. I dont know if that is the case in your situation but I would try downloading the latest video codecs and Direct X 9.0 and see what happens.

Thanks.  I'll give a few things a try tomorrow but feel like i've tried everything codec-wise...  I'm still having no luck...

(I've tried with multiple cf cards of varying size / speed with the same issues.)

I am in the same boat now too because even videos I convert myself now produce the same effect. The video plays fine on the computer when I open it up in the conversion software but on my DS all I see is colorfull squares. I converted two videos when I first got my supercard and they work when I play them but now nothing I convert works right. It worked fine untill I installed version 1.5 and my computer freezes when I try to uninstall it.

Yeah, still no worky for me.  I even got 1.5 uninstalled and 1.3 installed and still just colored blocks of puprle and green!

joshob2004

I found a version of 1.20 on my computer and tried to install that and put the unwise.exe in my other folder and have successfully reinstalled version 1.3 and my videos work fine again so 1.5 was the problem for me. I could send you version 1.20 if you want. just email me at joshob2004@email2me.net and I will send it as an attachment :)
if my email lets me of course (sometimes it wont)

Thanks man.

Still doesnt work for me...

I give up for now.

It sounds like you're trying to play crystal engine movies. The supercard doesnt support these. Uninstall yoiur movie converter, and install the one that comes on the CD with your supercard.

Unfortunately, unlike the ball, people do not bounce.

Well, I've installed every version I could find posted online (supercard.cn and otherwise) and nothing works.  (1.2, 1.3 and 1.5).  These are the converters that are supposed to work specifically with the supercard.

I ordered it from chipdealer.com and it was simply the small supercard box.   no CD.  so that suggestion only applies to people who ordered their card from a distributer that was nice enough to include a disc.

I'm still really not sure what the issue is here... I WILL get to the bottom of it someday.

Before you installed another version, did you unsinstall all previous versions??? Do that.

It works now on firmware v1.41 filmplay.bin v1.2...

You were semi correct... I had actually uninstalled previously but the files in the directory (...program files/GBA media/) had not been removed... I manually removed  those and reinstalled... It works, but i have to deal with the limitations of 1.41 firmware.... now to get a filmplay that plays on v1.44...

Thanks for suggesting to uninstall because it made me curious as to whether it was actually removing the files...
