Quote from: "hangman"Thank you very much, darkuni. But there're some rumors being said that the DS Lite '3rd wave' will be bricked when you flash (F2/F1 fuse will be blown at the moment you short the SL1 and the DS Lite shut down, this happens because the DS Lite newer firmware itself detected this and shut down, even though you didn't touch the next screw when flashing), could you help, is this true or just rumor?

TIA

Sounds like a rumor to me.  If you think about it, it really makes no sense.

1) The operating system of the DS actually modifies the firmware (parts of it) itself.  It wouldn't make sense that they would booby trap it to blow up a DS when firmware was altered (imagine if it went off by accident and people had DS bricks being returned by the droves)

2) The SL1 must have a legitimate use.  My guess is for Nintendo Tech to reflash defective firmwares.  This wouldn't make sense to booby trap this either.

Hey, we could be wrong - but I don't think so.  Just doesn't make sense.  And as Judge Judy says ... If it doesn't make sense, it probably isn't true. :)

I got a DS Lite to 1% then it powered off and I was pissed because I failed for the first time. Then I realize where I live people wouldn't even think about me modding me DS so I returned it for another DS Lite. I want to try it again but I'm going to watch this topic and get others input. I did a test run to see what would make the power go off and it happen a few times so I know this one is going to be a hard one to flash.

The main thing I think I did wrong was kind of just poke around and it just powered off. I figure next time I try it I really need a mirror this time. I was using a small screwdriver but maybe I might need some tin foil this time.

I have a modded Red DS and it was easier to do then this one.

So you poked around in the back where SL1 was and you were able to shut down your DS by shorting SL1, while your DS was in the menu or something? I'm just trying to prove a theory at the moment

I found if I "grope" around my DS Lite, I can get the power to shut off too ... but if I'm careful, I can successfully do it EVERY TIME without losing power.

The toothpick covered in tinfoil has been THE BEST tool yet.  Just wrap it tight enough to get all the way down the hole and no tighter (that helps keep you on track).

No problems here, just used a mirror and a screwdriver.

shane your the best!  thanks for the video...I am so scared!

I ordered a ds lite from overstock.com a month ago.  The reason I bought from this site because I could get it for $120 with no tax and including shipping.  They should be shipping the next few days.  Hopefully, I should receive the unit in a weeks time.

I was thinking that if I happened to brick my ds lite, I would just go to best buy, purchase another ds lite, and switch my bricked dsl with the new dsl.  Then, I would tell them that the ds lite was a faulty unit and that I would like my money refunded.

I just ordered a SuperKey because I got the DS Lite for my friend's B-day. From the looks of it he's going to only be playing the games on this SuperCard so he's not going to be using the DS slot for anything but that. I'm sure I'll try to Flash a DS Lite one day when I get one for myself.

No problems either using a small jewlers screwdriver. Just make contact with the SL1 bridge and slowely rotate it until the % counter starts to move. Should work fine if you are careful and take your time. This is the 3rd Lite I have done.

SUCCESS!!!!  I flashed my ds lite with little to no problems.  i tried using a screwdriver, but it didn't work.  i then used a coat hanger.  That did the trick.  I was really scared.  I was stuck at 10%, then 15%, but then it went all the way through.

To protect myself from the evil screw, I used a cut section of a plastic straw and placed it between the sl1 pad and the evil screw.

Thanks for all your help!  Now it's time to load some games!

I agree with darkuni/Shane on everything except the tool. The 3rd wave rumor is silly. DaveyChan's info is wrong (or at least incomplete). The only thing to watch out for is shorting something other than SL1. Losing SL1 contact doesn't make your DS Lite power off, shorting the wrong spot does.

It's as easy as the big DS, you just have to be more careful. A toothpick wrapped with foil is dangerous for those not as experienced as Shane. It's great for him because he knows what he's doing, but our DS scene is filled with young kids and electronics newcomers - they don't know what they're doing. Use insulating tape or a plastic straw... block both sides of the hole. The adj screw is not your only concern, the shielding plate grounds right next to SL1. I would suggest using a piece of metal rod filed flat at the tip (coathanger or small nail works) wrapped with insulating tape. It's almost impossible to contact anything other than SL1 if you prepare properly.

Don't be scared folks... just read up, and be smart... if it's too scary, buy a SuperKey.

edit: I'm not gonna lie... I was scared shitless. I figured after making a JTAG cable out of scraps and flashing my SuperPass1 into a SP2... I should be bold & go for it. I lost contact at least six times, but my DS Lite never blinked and I was finished with FlashMe 7 in under a minute.  8)

I never lost contact either and my Ds Lite went to 4% and then just turned off, lol. Was charged fully and pluged into the power outlet aswell. I say if your gonna do it, keep your reciept incase u mess up so u can exchange your DS Lite for a new one.

If it powered off, it's pretty sure you shorted something. What tool did you use?

edit: KEEP YOUR RECIEPTS!!!  :)  My first two DSLs were bad. #1 had a bad DS Slot & #2 had bad pixels... #3 is now god-like.
