FlashMe concerns

This isn't the usual "What if Nintendo change something?!?!" concern. This has more to do with the flash protection circumvention.

Before you use FlashMe, you have to connect point SL1 on the ds in order for the flash to work. Further FlashMe upgrades don't need this, seemingly FlashMe removes the requirement to short the points for a firmware upgrade to happen. This is all well and good for convenience when upgrading. But i have a problem with it.

Imagine that some friendly chap decides to write a bit of homebrew DS software, calls it WebBrowserDS.nds and uploads it to usenet. A bunch of people download it and install it on their DS in excitement, run it, then *BAMMO* instead of a web browser you get your firmware overwritten with a bunch of nothin' and a little grinning face spinning about both screens... Some people are arse holes...

I think the protection should stay in place....

The FlashMe has built in Firmware protection whereas the original NDS firmware does not. It's actually more dangerous to use a PassMe device then it is to use the FlashMe.

and thats why there are a lot of homebrew sites and forums... if somethink like that heppens.. they will know before and tell us about it, before we, simple users, know that it exists.

Yeah, i'm not sure if you posted here before or after, but someone told me the same on Max Console. I didn't realise this was how it works, but it makes a lot of sense now.

That's true, but it would always get some poor bastard.

Who would have thought DakrFader would be the one.....
