DS ROM Trimming - possible / does it work?

I have a copy of Guru Guru Nagetto, and the file is 64MB (512Mb). I opened it in a hex editor, and it appears that everything beyond 9MB or so is filled with null characters. Would the game still work if I trimmed these off? I know GBA games still work fine when you trim them, but I have no way to test it for NDS games. (I don't have an SC yet, but I'm thinking about getting one. I really liked the demo of this game, which is why I'm asking.)

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

I posted this on the official supercard forum the other day:

"Trimming .nds roms [ jonnyh85 ] 82.38.*.* 2005-9-9 5:28:39 Edit Reply
Just thought I"d let everyone know that you can trim your NDS roms before patching by renaming them to .gba and running them through a program called "gbata" (www.gbadat.altervista.org/gbata.htm).
Asphalt Urban GT is reduced from 32MB to 28.8MB and Electroplankton from 16MB to 11.6MB.
Worth doing if you want to save space on your memory card.

Hope that helps mate.

Wish you could do it after patching... I've patched all mine

I've been using GBA Tool Advance to trim them, and all you have to do is set the drop menu in the open dialog to open files of "All Types (*.*)".

Some examples:
Guru Guru Nagetto goes from 64MB to 8.35MB
Jump Super Stars goes from 64MB to 39.8MB (still to big to run, but getting closer)
Advance Wars: Dual Strike goes from 32MB to 27.2MB
Polarium goes from 8MB to 6.59MB

And those are all I've trimmed so far. If the new SC kernel actually can run most NDS games under 32MB, the likeliness of me getting one has gone way up.

Hey m2, how do you trim them in GBA Tool Advance? I open up the NDS ROM, and go to ROM Trimmer, and it won't let me trim it. (Tried Advance Wars)

Thanks.

Same way you just said. It works fine for me.
